UPH Festival 17: High School Competition

Mater Dei High School BINUS High School

On Thursday, 12 August 2010, UPH?s basketball court was heavily loaded with the audience who wanted to witness the attraction of Dance Competition. A total of 12 dance teams from 10 high schools around Jakarta joined to compete in this event. A team from BINUS International High School was the champion of the day, followed by Vianney High School and Mater Dei at third position. Each of them received cash money as the prizes as well as trophies. According to one of the participants from Vianney High School, Elegy, the competition is really interesting. ?It is our first experience to compete at UPH. We will be really interested to join again if this competition is held next year,? she said.

Other high school competitions were rubric?s cube, VocComp (Vocabulary Competition) and Tanggram. On Saturday, 14 August 2010 as the last day of UPH Festival 17, there will be a Photography Competition with an object of UPH Festival 17?s visitor?s expression.

A total of 40 enthusiastic participants from 18 high schools such as UPH College, SMAK Sang Timur, Binus Highschool, IPEKA Sunter and Penabur GS also SMAK 1 Bina Bakti Bandung participated  in rubric?s cube competition which was held at Lobby D. This invidivual game required each participant?s speed and accuracy in composing the cube. The committee only gave 5 chances for every player. They were all given with 15 seconds to determine whether they can go to the next level or have to leave.

VocComp competition was held at Building B. The English Department as the organizer of the competition recorded 77 participants who came from various high schools and other English language institutions. The competition began at 1 pm with the opening speech from Mr. Gary A. Miller, Ph. D., and afterward Mr. Hananto explained the producers and regulations in the competition. Then all participants were divided into four groups, and from these groups, 4 best participants will go to the final stage. The fought prize was a number money of Rp.1, 500, 000, – for the first winner, Rp.1, 000, 000, – for the second winner, and Rp.750, 000, – for the third winner, and also BII savings of Rp.250, 000, – for every winner.

The other unique competition is Tanggram which was held at Lobby D. This spontaneous game was opened for all high school students who were in the campus at the moment.  There was no time limit in compiling Tanggram pieces to make a form which was displayed by the committee. Those who win will receive free movie tickets at Blitz Megaplex. (feb)
