The Grand Opening of UPH Olympic Swimming Pool and Futsal Court

UPH Sports Department officially opened Olympic Swimming Pool and Futsal Court in UPH on Thursday, April 14, 2011.

The newly-launched Olympic Swimming Pool. Head of KONI/KOI Rita Subowo, Executive Vice Chancellor/President Dr. Gary A. Miller, and Vice President for Student Development and Spiritual Growth Dr. J. Kirk Kauffeldt, Ed.D. officially opened the new facilities.

UPH Sports Department officially opened the Olympic Swimming Pool and Futsal Court as the new facilities in Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) on Thursday, April 14, 2011. The grand opening was attended by the Head of Komite Olahraga Nasional Indonesia – KONI (Indonesian National Sports Committee) and Komite Olahraga Indonesia – KOI (Indonesian Olympic Committee) Rita Subowo, and General Secretary of KOI ? Arie Ariotedjo.

The new facilities are not only intended for UPH College and UPH students, but also open for public with certain fees. The public?s contributions will then be used to recruit sports professionals, such as swimming coaches and lifeguards.

These facilities are expected to be useful for many people. ?We create an environment that?s good for people, say 16 years of age to 40, and this become the kind of place to be; come and do something healthy, a place to hang out,? said Stephen Lester Metcalfe, BA, Director of Sports.

Rita Subowo also mentioned that the grand opening of the Olympic Swimming Pool would be the starting point of the cooperation between UPH and KOI also Persatuan Renang Seluruh Indonesia ? PRSI (Indonesian Aquatics Association). ?The swimming pool could be used to host international competitions,? said Rita. As a follow up of the MOU signed last year, Rita promised to launch some KOI and PRSI programs at UPH in the near future. (dee)
