Olivia Husli Basrin: the Outstanding Graduate who landed in the Presidential Office

UPH Alumnus Olivia Husli Basrin is the youngest staff in the Office of the Special Staff of the President for International Relations.

Olivia Husli Basrin is the youngest staff among the 12 influential people in the Office of the Special Staff of the President for International Relations. Graduated as the outstanding student from UPH International Relations Department on December 2010, Basrin had started her career way before she was graduated.

Basrin?s job description includes preparing the talking points for the President, and drafting international speeches. ?You not only have to be smart but you have to be sociable, knowledgeable, and able to relate to people,? said Basrin regarding her job?s requirement.

Her career started when she first met and got introduced to Dino Patti Djalal in UPH?s seminar. She was the MC back then. The door was widely opened when she took internship in the Presidential office in July 2009. Having a great performance, she was recruited as the staff right after she had finished her thesis.

One of the most memorable experiences she had while working for the President was accompanying the First Lady, Mrs. Ani Yudhoyono, as her personal interpreter while she made several state visits. On her trip, she got the opportunity to meet many First Ladies from various countries, including Michelle Obama. Meeting and getting involved in the discussion of the First Ladies require you to be well informed. Therefore, research is important. It is important to know and study the background of the person whom you talk to so that you are prepared and equipped with the accurate information. ?You have to be able to update yourself,? said Basrin regarding her preparation.

In the end, Basrin told us to work hard to achieve our dreams. ?Always set your target, dream big, and work hard. Don?t be afraid to take every opportunity available. And the most important thing to do is to pray to God,? told Basrin. (dee)
