BEM Gathering

?We do not need to go down to the street or demonstrate to convey our aspiration. There are many other ways we can do, such as discussing and educating?

Due to the number of demonstration which were done by university students as the reaction of problems occured in this nation, BEM UPH felt that they needed to contibute by holding political discussion with other BEM in Jabodetabek. ?We do not need to go down to the street or demonstrate to convey our aspiration. There are many other ways we can do, such as discussing and educating?, said Ryan, an Industrial Engineering 2009 student, who also a member of BEM UPH External Relations Department.

Therefore BEM UPH held this gathering with other universities BEM members in Jabodetabek on April 9th 2012 at MYC Multi Purpose Room, UPH, Karawaci. Issues about democration, freedom, liberalism, and nationalism were discussed in this event. To provide insight into those issues, the committee held a seminar titled ?When Pancasila Meets Freedom?. As the speakers, they were Jerry Sambuaga, a political practicioner, and John Riady, an academician. In the discussion, both of them talked a lot about liberalism influence upon nationalism. After the seminar, the event continued with discussion between BEM, talking about nationalism and democration.

This event got a rave from the participants from 22 universities, such as LSPR, UMN, Paramadina, Universitas Swadarma, and University of Indonesia. The participants generally gave positive responds about this event, due to its benefit in broadening insight and strengthening the relationships with other universities? executive boards. (ros)
