Six Representatives of The American Universities Visited UPH

This visit was one of the U.S. ? Indonesia Joint Council for Higher Education Partnership (JC) program to facilitate cooperation in higher education between the two countries.

UPH welcomed six representatives of the American universities on Monday, April 16th 2012 at the Rectorate Meeting Room, Building A. These 6 representatives were Jonathan Fink, VP for Research & Strategic ? Portland State University, Robert Ewigleben, President Emeritus – Ferris State University, Denise Konan, Dean of College of Social Science – University of Hawaii at Manoa, Jeff Thomas, Assoc. Dean of Int. Programs- University of Missoury Kansas City, Joanna Regulska, VP for Internatinal & Global Affairs – Rutgers University, and Ahmad Ezzeddine, Assoc. VP for International Programs – Wayne Statte University.

All the representative was welcomed by Gary Miller, President of UPH, Dr. John Lee, VP for University Development and External Relations, Dr. Kirk Kauffeldt, VP for Student Development, Connie Rasilim, VP for Academic Affairs dan Natalia Fifi, Director of International Affairs.

This visit was one of the program from U.S. ? Indonesia Joint Council for Higher Education Partnership (JC) to facilitate cooperation in higher education between the two countries. The topic discussed in this meeting were about the posibility of scholarship cooperation, dual degree program, students and lecturers exchange, technology utilization in online learning, and developing other cooperations.

Some majors that were discussed in the discussion were Food Technology, Business School, Communication Science, Design, Law, Teacher College dan Nursing.

Robert Ewigleben from Ferris State University was interested in the possibility of cooperation about specific course in sport management and hopitality management, while Jeff Thomas from University of Missouri proposed the posibility of cooperation in interdisciplinary program between Law and Business or Political Science.

Some universities were also interested to discussed about the development of educational program through UPH?s Teachers College, due to Indonesia?s quality of education that needs to be improve and the needs of better and more qualified teacher. Program which was proposed such as lecturer exchange or guest lecturers during short semester.


After the discussion, all of the representatives were guided to have a campus tour to UPH?s library, dormitory, sport facilities and other educational facilities, and observe the learning activity in some classes. (rh)
