The second day of Sport Symposium at UPH (24/8) opened two public sessions that took place at MYC. Dr. Niel Nielson ? former tennis player from Wheaton College who now works as the Lippo Group Education Initiative Chairman and Luke Roush, former football player from Duke University who now works as the Managing General Partner of Sovereign?s Capital are the speakers for the second day symposium. Coaches and UPH Sport as well as JAQ Swimming who have relation with UPH Sport attended the symposium.

In the first session, Dr. Niel Nielson discussed the theme ?The role of School/University in Developing Sport as A Media to Educate, Challenge, and Shape Indonesian Teenagers?. In his discussion, Nielson encouraged the participants to take notice the talents they have been given such as: responsibilities toward identity, creativity, shape of one?s physical, and many others ? for example the further development of sportsmanship in one self. Nielson also helped the participants to reflect themselves, to realize their sins, to forgive and to atone, and to have the desire to change into a new way of life with a new perspective that is in accordance to God?s wish. According to Nielson, sport can be a media to glorify God, universal language and an opportunity to demonstrate our faith of God.

In the second session ? with the theme ?The Role of Sport in Helping the Indonesian Teenagers? Ethics, Values, and Moral Development? ? Luke Roush started the symposium by asking why we do sports and for whom the activity is aimed. Roush also added that these questions were not only aimed to athletes but also to all participants. In this symposium, Roush shared some of his experience when he was in college where he really love to sport, compete, and win. ?But in every competition, there has to be the time to win and time to lose, and from those time we can learn and grow,? he explained. Therefore, to answer the questions from the sessions? beginning, Roush said that it would be better in everything we have done, we do it for the glory of God ? our character and personality will also in accordance to His will. Roush also added that the matter of winning or losing should be balanced with a sense of gratitude. With gratitude, the ability to be stable ?whether winning or losing ? would appear in one self.
