To further enrich knowledge of architecture from many other countries, Universitas Pelita Harapan School of Design ? Architecture Program welcomed a visit from two associations of Korea architects, BaMI (Builders As a Mission) and ICAI (Institution of Christian Architects International). These associations gather students from 6 Korea universities; they are Seoul National University, Seoul City University, Myungji University, Jungang University, Hoseo University and Shinansan University. The purpose of their visit to UPH is to exchange architecture knowledge, particularly on architectural designs that are inspired from local culture and have artistic cultural values.

Elya K. Wibowo, Dean of UPH School of Design, welcomed the visiting group that consists of 5 lecturers, 25 students and 2 staff of BaMI and ICAI.

BaMI and ICAI opened the session with a description of their research result on architecture and construction that take place not only in Korea but also other countries such as Japan, Cambodia, China, and Indonesia. From the description, it can be seen that all the projects, either still in planning development or already finished, have the same purposes, to bring happiness for the users and instill values from the Bible on every stage of the projects.

The session continued with a lecture from UPH Architecture, presented by its two lecturers: Ahmad Djuhara and Wendy Djuhara. In their presentation, they explained about the cultural values that are incorporated in the Indonesia design architecture. This method of design, which creates a kind of unique application of old-era design into modern-era design, piqued BaMI and ICAI students? and staff? interest. Their interest were shown from many questions raised, mainly asking about Indonesia architectural designs that are loaded with cultural values from many different regions.

Souvenirs exchange between UPH and BaMI and ICAI marked the end of the lecture session. Their visit then continued to Campus Tour, guided by lecturers as well as representatives from Architecture Student Council ?Gamatara?. (lau)
