?A life not live for others is not a life?

The above quote, by Mother Theresa, means that we as human need each other to live our life. Through the said quote, UPH Student Executive Board invited UPH students to contribute for others by organizing a donation blood event, ?A Gift for Life?. Working together with Indonesia Red Cross, the event is held from January 25, 28, and 29 with different venues on each day.

The first blood donation event took place on January 25 at Supermall Karawaci 3rd floor, from 11.00 a.m. to 03.00 p.m. According to the Head of Blood Donation 2014, Eko Christian (Management 2012), the reason for Supermall Karawaci as the first venue is to reach a wider public that wanted to donate their blood.

?The mall?s location is quite effective to attract many people. Moreover, the mall officials are also cooperative; they help the committee by publicizing the event through media socials and announcement to the visitors. Unfortunately, the venue is kind of hard to be noticed by the visitors because it is at the most corner of the 3rd floor. For the next event, we are going to request for the main atrium so that more visitors can notice and also the committee can plan entertainment activities for the blood donators,? Eko said.

The next blood donation event was on January 28 at UPH Karawaci, Building D room 502. The last blood donation event, the third one, was on January 29 at UPH Faculty of Medicine Multifunction Room. During these events, all of donators got a free glucose test.

According to Eko, the main campus event attracted the most potential donators with the number 200 donator candidates. Therefore, the committee had prepared entertainment such as live music and games. However, out of 200 candidates, only 146 were allowed to donate their blood. Meanwhile at other venues, Faculty of Medicine managed to gather 90 donators and Supermall Karawaci had 143 donators. With that, a total of more than 400 bags of blood were collected in these blood donation events. Eko concluded that, from the gathered data, only 45 percents out of all donator candidates who were allowed to donate their blood.

Universitas Pelita Harapan does not only teach knowledge to students but also awareness for others. This is also a part of holistic education that UPH applied to the students.
