FUNDRAISING NIGHT MISS UPH SCHOLAR 2014 ?A Small Act For A Greater Impact?

The performance of the 20 Finalists of Miss UPH 2014 with the students of Sekolah Kusuma Bangsa, Tangerang, at Building D 501 UPH

UPH Student Executive Board (BEM) together with the 20 Finalists of Miss UPH Scholar 2014, held a Community Service (PKM) in the form of a fundraising to help Kusuma Bangsa School, which is located not far from UPH campus. According to Chairman of the Committee, Jennifer Clarencia, a double degree student of Tourism and Management 2013, the reason behind choosing to help this school is because of the quite alarming physical condition of the school which in the end causes a disruption in the learning activities. Another reason is because the students come from poor families and so they have difficulties in paying tuition.

The fundraising event was established in the form of a talent show by the 20 Finalists of Miss UPH Scholar 2014, such as dancing and singing. Some talented UPH students like Yemima Hutapea (Finalists of Miss Indonesia 2013, UPH student majoring in International Relations, 2012), Deasy Juwita (Cici Jakarta 2012, UPH student majoring in Communication Studies, 2011), Eckplants (UPH Student Band), and also Grace, one of the representatives of Kusuma Bangsa School students, also participated in the event.

The unique thing is that this event was also attended by ambassadors from other universities such as LSPR and UMN. They were invited to support this event, as well as a form of forging relationships between Universities? Ambassadors. BEM-UPH Chairman, Andre Steawan, Civil Engineering 2012, expressed his hope that through this activity, other students can be inspired and so that people will know that UPH students do not only care about themselves, but also their circumstances. “Well, we realize the concern by heling the education of children who are less capable in achieving their life goals,” said Andre. The ticket sales amounted to Rp 5,000,000,- and other collected funds were donated to help pay the school fees and to purchase a bookshelf, and a set of angklung. Most of the participants in this event were students of UPH. The event was also attended by Miss UMN 2014 and BEM UMN 2014, Mr & Ms LSPR 2014, and also the public. (fc)
