As a form of dedication towards the society and due to their concern for the growth of the young generation, Faculty of Nursing (FON) UPH held a Health Education deminar at Sekolah Lentera Harapan (SLH) Curug. This seminar was held for two days, from June 3-4, 2015 and was followed by 60 students from grade 9, SLH Curug.
This event was led by Lydia Sare, Clinical Educator of FON UPH and the seminar itself was presented by Juniarta Siaga S.Kep., M.Sc., a lecturer and also the Head of Students Service Ministry of FON UPH. The seminar was given in accordance with the school?s need. On the first day, a First Aid seminar was held to educate students on how to do basic first aid for accidents with the cases used for examples that commonly happened at school. Then, on the same day there was also a seminar on Healthy and Hygienic Lifestyle (PHBS) which taught students to keep the cleanliness of their body, such as paying attention to their body odor and the right way of washing their hands. ?This is really important, because our body hygiene really affect out health,? said Lydia.
On the next day, there was a seminar on Reproduction System Health. Here, students were given the knowledge about sex thoroughly, both in terms of psychological, physiological and within the Biblical view. This seminar was divided into two classes, which was for male and female students, so they could be more open and honest on the discussion afterwards. According to Juniarta, this is an essential matter that needs to be taught to children, even in their early years, because nowadays, they were in the state of puberty where physiologically and psychologically they started to undergo changes. But we need to keep in mind that we have to deliver it wisely so the students would not get the wrong understanding. ?This seminar was held because a research stated that 61% female teenager, aged 12-17 years old, have ever had sex and 21% of female teenagers have ever had abortion. This is extremely sad. Therefore, we conduct this seminar as a prevention step, so in the future, those kinds of thing would not continuously happen,? Juniarta explained.
