Rachel Claire, a Communication student of UPH, batch 2014, participated in Model United Nations (MUN) Conference that was initiated and held by the University of Yale in Beijing, China on August 20-23, 2015. Her journey began when she became a judge for a debate competition at Singapore, along with professional judges who incidentally was also the organizer of Yale University?s Model United Nations, ?He invited me and I said yes,? said Claire.

For four days and three nights, at 09.00-20.30, Claire followed her first MUN conference and she acted as Costa Rica?s delegation in the World Trade Organization (WTO) committee. In this WTO committee, delegations talked about various issues about trading capacity for underdeveloped countries, including Intellectual Property Right and TRIPS agreement on framework development for fair trade in agriculture.

Commonly, Model United Nations is like a ?food? for International Relations students, but this turned out to be a new challenge for Claire, who?s a Communication student. She admitted that she had never gotten a lesson about MUN and how to do it, but according to her, this conference gave her a chance to know how the world operate and the ways to solve world?s problems. ?Aside from that, meeting with new friends from Beijing, India, Korea, Philippine, Vietnam, Mongolia, Shanghai and many other countries and learnt about their cultures and the condition of their countries/cities were a priceless experience,? she then added.

With hard work and the will to give the best out of everything, Claire successfully followed the MUN conference. There, she managed to achieve and award for the ?friendliest delegation? which create the most number of relations and new acquaintances, ?This was an unforgettable experience for me and it inspires me to keep striving to hone my skills and knowledge,? Claire stated. She hopes that Communication students will be able to follow her trail to venture the world through this kind of MUN conference (fc/mv)
