In order to socialize the application of ISO 14001: 2015, the Standardization Center for Environment and Forestry (PSLK), Ministry of Environment and Forestry cooperated with the Department of Industrial Engineering Faculty of Science and Technology (FaST) UPH in holding Facilitation Workshop Implementing ‘Environmental Management System (EMS) ISO 14001: 2015 and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Towards Sustainable Supply Chain, on Monday, October 5, 2015. the event was attended by Ir. Noer Adi Wardojo, M.Sc., Head of Environment and Forestry Standardization KLHK, and four speakers, namely Tri Hendro A. Utomo, MSc., Deputy Assistant Standardization and Technology Ministry of Environment, Dr. Jessica Hanafi, Lecturer in Industrial Engineering UPH FaST, Edi Siswanto Wiloso, M.Sc Chairman of Indonesia Life Cycle Assessment Network (ILCAN) and Jemmy Chayadi, VP Sustainability APRIL Group. The seminar was moderated by Dr. Ir. Melanie Cornelia, MT.

Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak

The seminar was opened by Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak M.Eng.Sc., UPH Rector, and Dr. Helena Margaretha M.Sc., Vice Dean of FaST. In his speech, the Rector said that UPH is an educational institution that cares about environmental issues, which are implemented by the green campus environment and non-smoking campus area. “I realized that this is a very broad environmental issue. And I welcome the efforts of the standardization that can bring welfare of society for a better environment so that we, who are in it, can work and create better, “said Rector.

Dr. Helena Margaretha also expressed the importance of this seminar for students to broaden their knowledge to environmental issues and sustainability. He also hoped the workshop to be the beginning of the cooperation of the study program in FaST UPH with KLHK to do a joint research that can be donated as an input in policy making.

Furthermore, Ir. Noer Adi Wardojo, M.Sc said the reason for this seminar on college campuses is to make efforts in scientific development. UPH is the first campus that is invited to this program and will proceed to other campuses. He also said the goal of this seminar is the socialization of environmental standardization issues and forestry to sustainability, to the students who are potential leaders, so that someday after they graduate, they can implement this knowledge in their professional world. This is in theme with government efforts to encourage sustainable development in Indonesia. “The center of sustainable development is to make people’s lives better. Hence the campus must know and recognize standards that apply internationally in this regard? ISO 14000: 2015. Knowledge of this standardization is not only important to for people in the field of industrial engineering or environmental engineering, but for all of society in various fields. Knowing this standardization can see what can be contributed in their respective fields,” said Ir. Noer Adi Wardojo.

The seminar continued with presentations of the speakers who were divided into two sessions. The first session presented by Tri Hendro A. Utomo, Assistant Deputy of Standardization and Technology, KLHK. and Dr. Jessica Hanafi, Lecturer in Industrial Engineering Fast UPH. Tri Hendro conveys the topic of environmental management by the Life Cycle Assessment Analysis and how it is applied. According to him, life cycle assessment approach can be used for policy making and evaluating a process to improve efficiency. While Jessica conveys the link between the application of ISO 14001: 2015 with a sustainable supply chain management through case studies. He hooked the theme with the master plan of economic development acceleration and expansion of Indonesia (MP3EI), which aims to value adding and expanding value chain, and to achieve global sustainability so that it can compete with our neighboring countries. “Sustainable supply chain reckon environmental, social and economic aspects. Application of ISO 14001: 2015 prioritizes Life Cycle perspective in accordance with the Sustainable Supply Chain. For this to be achieved, the commitment of top management is needed, “said Jessica.

The second session of the seminar was delivered by Edi Siswanto Wiloso, Chairman of ILCAN and Jemmy Chayadi, VP Sustainability of the APRIL Group. Edi Wiloso invites the participation of researchers and industry in the implementation of life cycle assessment in their respective fields. ILCAN is a network of researchers and practitioners in the field of Life Cycle Assessment in Indonesia. While Jemmy explained his experience in implementing sustainability policies in the industry.

After the presentation, the participants were given the opportunity to ask. Some questions include the LCA Linkages with eco-labeling. Participants who asked also raised questions about the readiness of institutions ISO certification provider in Indonesia and how the role of the government related to this standardization policy. Attendees from industry, environmental associations and companies as well as observers, benefit from this event. This socialization is expected to be able to provide the benefits and knowledge to various stakeholders, and KLHK is open to provide the required information related to the EMS community and this LCA.
