Food Explore 8 Showcase 15 Food Products Innovation Created by Food Technology Students of UPH

The Food Explore 8 event officially begins today, on 4-6 November 2015, with the theme ‘Call to Act: A Little Awareness Prevents Future Anxiety’.

 

A total of 15 food product innovations by UPH Food Technology student are on display at Home Innovations in the courtyard of the building D UPH campus. Generally, the snacks are made using raw materials that have not traditionally been used in its maximum potential. A variety of food including, KamiTea Ice Cream which is ice cream from frangipani, Wotul Cookies made from a combination of rice bran and carrots, lollaly drink made from turnips and ginger extract, and there is also Barj, biscuits made from barley which is commonly used for bird food.

 

 

This event was inaugurated by the President of UPH, Raymond Liu Ph.D., and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology UPH, Prof. Dr. Manlian Ronald A. Simanjuntak, ST., MT., D. Min., Witnessed by the lecturers and students of the Department of Food Technology UPH.

 

In his speech Raymond Liu present his views related to the food issues that affect the health. “I am surprised that it is now not only fish that is containing formalin, but other foods such as tofu, fried bananas are also contaminated with materials that are not safe. This is the state of society if we do not provide awareness, care, and understanding related to food safety. For that, the food technology department was present and took an active role, “said Raymond Liu. 

 

Raymond Liu also explained that besides the focus on food safety, Food Technology students can also take the role of Indonesia to improve the local economy, by trying to explore potential food ingredients derived from areas in Indonesia are not yet known in benefits and processing.

Furthermore, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology Prof. Dr. Manlian Ronald A. Simanjuntak, said, “The Power of Food Explore this time is on its interesting theme, namely Food Safety, which is highly relevant to the food science. This theme is also highly relevant to the government program, which will be a seminar on Friday, November 6, 2015. Faculty strongly supports this event and look forward to becoming a sustainable academic activity. “

Come to appreciate the work of Food Explore 8 committee, Julia R. Wijaya, MAppSc., Chairman of the Department of Food Technology stated that the selection of the theme “Food Safety” is a sign that students begin to be concerned with issues of food safety, and hope that students can enlighten the public through various activities undertaken together with the lecturers in the Department of Food Technology.

After the inauguration continued with the gong and the ribbon cutting of Home Innovations, as well as a visit to each student?s stand, students who exhibited innovation explain the benefits and process of manufacture of food and beverages, as well as provide samples for tasting by each visitor.
