Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) encouraged more people to care about public health through Blood Donation with the theme of ?One Drop Saves Lives?, which was held by UPH Student?s Executive Organization (BEM) on November 5, 2015 at the Medicine Faculty and also on November 11, 2015 at the D 502, UPH Main Campus.

?This year, we have a target for about 500 participants and to maximize our service, we were assisted by two teams from Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), from PMI Cilegon, with 10 people and PMI Tangerang, with 12 people, so in total there were 22 beds,? explained Sisilia Chandra Wijaya from the Community Service Department of BEM UPH, as the head of the first blood donation event for the 2015-2016 period. According to the result from the blood donation, which has been done from November 5, at the Medicine Faculty of UPH, from 281 participants whom had registered themselves, there have already been 161 blood bags collected ad 120 participants who couldn?t donate their blood, due to unfulfilled requirements, such as health requirements from PMI.  For today, according to Sisilia, 220 blood bags had been collected.

As an effort to achieve the targeted number of participants, the committee did numerous publications through banners, handing out brochures and creating a mascot shaped as a drop of blood. This event was followed by students, UPH staffs and several donors from outside of UPH. The total number of donors for this year is 561, but only 381 were able to donate their blood. This occurrence, according to Sisilia happened because of the time constraints from the PMI teams.

For all participants, the committee hoped that through this event, the public could understand that blood donation is not just good for them, but it also brings health and goodness to other people whom needed them. ?We hoped that through this event, each people social consciousness can grow and they can realize Indonesia?s condition, which still lacks blood supplies at the PMI blood bank,? added Sisilia.
