Youth Camp (Students? Retreat) is the biggest life-changing event in Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH)

Rev. Alex Nanlohy, Invited All Participants to Accept God?s Calling

Youth Camp (Students? Retreat) is the biggest life-changing event in Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH). This event was held by students who long for their friends to know and receive Lord Jesus personally, to experience spiritual restoration, to commit to living as new creations with Christ as the center of their life, and to serve God.

Youth Camp has been held since 1995 and it has blessed lots of life of UPH students? as well as transforms them. Year by year, there has always been a large number of students and alumni who joins this Youth Camp. In 2016, there are more than 500 students from various departments and year, aside from that, some alumni were also present during the Youth Camp, which was held in Wisma Kinasih, Bogor, on November 11-13, 2016.

The Rector of UPH, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc., in his short presentation, conveyed his hopes for students who have joined the Youth Camp 2016. He hopes that students will be able to experience a renewal within Christ and also for their faith to be strengthened by listening to the Word of God.

Rev. Albert Mitchell Moore, the Vice President of Student Development, said that the theme of this year?s Youth Camp ?Unconditional? was taken from Rome 5:8, which aims to let students experience the unconditional love of God.

?Unlike the love of your friends, the Love of God is not due to your performance,  achievements, or how you look. Instead, God loves us while we were still sinners. This means that there is nothing that you can do to get God to love you more and there is nothing you can do to get God to love you less. Whether you have good grades or bad grades, lots of friends or no friends, rich or poor, male or female, an outcast or achieve, God?s love is based solely on the work of God in Christ? explained Moore to Youth Camp participants during his session.

At the end of his session which took the theme ?Who He Is?, Moore encouraged all participants to receive the love of God and to live within His love by leaving all of their sins and bad habits.

The other key speaker,Rev. Alex Nanlohy brought the theme of ?Who Am I? and ?How God Love Us?.  These sessions remind students about their identity before the Lord and how God?s work has to return sinful man into their previous identity.

On the third day, all participants followed a Sunday service sermon with theme  new creation, taken from  Ephesians 4:17-19, delivered by Junius Hardi, a lecturer of Faculty of Liberal Arts UPH. He encouraged all the students to respond towards God?s love.

The Youth Camp program ended with a sharing by alumni, Jane Margareth, Informatics System 2010, who shared her spiritual story during mentoring and doing service in UPH campus. This session aims the participants to have motivation and willingness to serve on a campus in various aspects and fields.

Rimawaty Panjaitan, the Section Head of Spiritual Growth for Student, hopes that all enthusiasm will not end even after the retreat. She hopes that the enthusiasm will keep on growing along with the willingness to learn and to grow within Christ, through service programs which have been held by the Department of Spiritual Growth for Students.

?There are several programs for students to learn about God?s word and to serve within the campus, such as BASIC/TLC (Discipleship – Bible Study), Daily Prayer Meeting (DPM), Friday Fellowship and Students Fellowship Activity. There are also lots of services which students can choose to be involved in, such as Worship Leader, musicians, singer, usher, Youth Camp committee and much more. Through mentoring and doing service, students will become the blessing to their fellow friends, the campus and also family. Even when they have graduated, they can be impactful people,? Rima explained. (rh)
