Pierre Sauv?, the Deputy Managing Director and Director of Studies at the World Trade Institute (WTI), gave a general lecture to UPH law students entitled ?Development and the Doha Agenda? at UPH on Friday, October 07, 2011. This lecture discussed about the global trade phenomenon that features not only rich countries but also developing countries. This phenomenon leads to global problem where there is no equality for all the countries in terms of trade rule. ?Should we have rules that applied to all in the same way regardless of the level of wealth? Should we treat Indonesia the way we treat United States? Should we treat Sudan the way we treat Indonesia? Is everybody born equal in this capacity to implement these rules? Does one size fit all,? Sauv? explained the phenomenon. In the end of discussion, Sauv? encouraged the participants to support trading. ?Don?t think negative, but keep your eyes open,? suggested Sauv? in facing foreign companies. The key in trading is to be open-minded and never stop learning. (dee) UPH Media Relations |
