UPH Communication Department held a seminar regarding the future jobs and career opportunity in communication field on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at MYC Multipurpose Room. This seminar was held to inform the students of Communication Department the possible jobs and available positions they will face after graduate.

Seminar invited three speakers from different background. Each speaker represented each concentration of UPH Communication Department. They were Liya Djajadisastra from Public Relations, Aswin Regawa from Facebook (social media), and Sumardy from Marketing field. Each speaker gave brief explanation on what they are doing at work and gave some tips for students to be successful at work and job application.

To PR students, Liya Djajadisastra told that many PR are successful because PR is an easy job. However, many men tell otherwise. ?Research shows that women respect the profession more than men,? she told. She explained that to be a good PR, there were five top skills. There were good writing skill, creativity, familiarity with publishing tools, professionalism, and personable.

Sumardy told the students to dare to express their ideas and not afraid to try something. ?As a marketer, you should be prepared to evolve,? he added. He also told the students to start a blog and be active in social media. ?80 percents of employers google their applicants,? told him. Therefore, it is important to ?sell? ourselves so that people will see us.

Aswin Regawa mentioned that social media these days became extremely important, especially for marketing tools. The job opportunity in this field was now widely opened as the era of social media was growing rapidly. ?Facebook and twitter is a social marketing platform,? he explained. In the end he also told the students to be confident. ?Indonesian people are not stupid, but they are not confident,? told him. (dee)
