Looking at the current condition of this nation, UPH Rector Jonathan L. Parapak pointed out the significance of preparing the young generation with solid principal values. The preparation can begin from education first. This statement is conveyed to the media, in midst of International Christian Higher Education Conference (ICHEC), Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at UPH campus.
Furthermore, Parapak also point out the significance of media in socializing important values such as truth and justice. Therefore, UPH together with two Christian universities from North America ? Biola University and Corban University ? convened a conference where participants from 11 countries as well as renowned figures in their respective fields to exchange ideas. He mentioned several keynote speakers that specially invited for this conference; they are Duane Litfin ? former president of renowned Christian college Wheaton College US, Dr. Rodney Philip Thompson ? Headmaster of Laidlaw College New Zealand and Dr. David Aikman ? renowned writer, journalist, and US foreign policy consultant.
?We want to learn from their experience, how they prepare the young generation for future. Thus, besides learning from scientific aspect, this conference is expected to give thought on truth, character and faith,? Parapak asserted. The result from this conference is also expected to have a hand in the Nation?s growth.
Regarding the significance of media in education, Parapak said that in reality, media plays an important role to encourage renewal in society. However, the role of media in education for society ? according to Parapak ? is still below average. Because of that, TV stations need to pay attention on these important aspects (truth and justice, red.)
Parapak also touched on the topic of equal distribution of ? specifically education that underlines character development ? not only in major cities but also in the rural areas. ?For that purpose, we at YPPH build schools on rural areas throughout Indonesia,? Parapak said.
Parapak hoped that this conference could incite students? spirit to take part in the Nation?s development, either in education or media. So that one day ? when engaging in the professional world ? they can bring major impacts for the Nation?s growth. (rh)
