UPH Eagles Women’s Basketball Team Achieves First Place in LIMA National 2019.

The women’s basketball team of UPH Eagles achieved first place in the Liga Mahasiswa (LIMA) National on 12 August 2019 at GOR Jakarta Timur after tearing down Universitas Esa Unggul’s (UEA) defenses with a score of 52-43. The victory gave UPH its first national title in this category.

In the report by Kompas.com (13 August 2019 article), throughout the match, UPH Eagles’ team strove to play strategically and decided the flow of the game. In the end, they played their best during the second through last quarter, making the game UPH’s and preventing UEA from catching up with them.

Fajar Kusumasari, UPH coach, said, “We are glad that we won. The players’ competitiveness was what pushed us to this victory because it reminded us that we have not won a single national title before. Last year, we were able to reach the finals, but we did not achieve the title. The players learned from their defeat last year and did not give up ‘til the end. We are constantly reminded of our previous mistakes, therefore motivating us to learn from it, to be better this season. Our opponents were strong, so if we were to stay weak, we would never win.”

The men’s basketball team also achieved second place in the LIMA Nationals this year. In the final round, UPH Eagles fought against the men’s team of Institut Teknologi Harapan Bandung (ITHB), ending the match with a score of 72-69.

Through these successes, UPH Chancellor Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc. gave his appreciation to the UPH Sports team. He gave thanks to the student-athletes, who are students of different faculties, coaches, and the UPH Sports Department. The Chancellor said that this victory is a gift from God, and it is for His glory. To God be the glory!
