Equipping a Person’s Skill from the Early Age through PLH.

Learning is a never-ceasing, lifelong process. From the early stage of life, a person has a need of learning to gain skills. Perhaps there are many people who think that learning can only be done in/through official educational institution such as school and university. The fact is that learning can be done outside the curriculum of an official educational institution, and it can be very helpful, not only for everyday life, but also for the official learning in educational institution.

In order to meet the needs of the wider community to gain skills outside of formal education, starting from elementary school (SD) level to the university level, Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) presents the Pelita Learning Hub (PLH). Moreover, PLH also fulfills the needs of gaining skills for professionals that can be applied in their professions, especially skills related to digital technology and to the increasingly dynamic industrial needs.

Supported by teachers and facilitators who are experienced in their fields in both education and professional world, PLH currently has opened several classes including; Digital Art, Visual Art, Coding, Sound Design, and Web Development. These fields will continue to be developed according to the needs and the advancement in the field.

The four PLH programs fit the participant’s age group, including:

  • After School Program (5-12 years)
This program is for elementary school children, held after school activities. Activities offered will train the mindset of the children to be more creative and skilled so that it can be useful at the next school level.
  • Enrichment Program (13-12 years)
This program introduces participants to skills in professional work from an early age so that it can be easily applied later in life.
  • Vocational Program (> 17 years)
This program offers skills that can be learned by everyone who does not have the same educational foundation as the course program. It is intended for people who want to add special skills or change professions.
  • Seminars and Workshops (> 17 years)
This program is for everyone to discuss, practice, and build community so that the gained skills can be sharpened in the community to the maximum.

In addition to gaining knowledge and skills that are relevant to the ever-evolving world, PLH can also be a means to build relationships and prepare participants to be able to compete in the professional world from an early age.
