UPH Women’s Eagles Basketball Made It to the Finals of LIMA Nationals 2018.

The Eagles Women’s team from Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) won a ticket to the finals of LIMA Basketball Nationals 2018 after beating Parahyangan Catholic University (Unpar) Bandung. In the semifinal round held on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 in the sports center of Universitas Airlangga (Unair) C Campus UPH dominated the game and came put on top.

UPH made a point of dominating from the start. In the first five minutes, the team, which is also the winner of the Greater Jakarta Conference, scored nine points without the opposing team reciprocating. However, The Eagles ceased to dominate in the second half of the opening quarter and did not score. Unpar scored two points, and Millania Angela (17) then scored 5 points for UPH.

After being behind with 2-9, Unpar scored seven points in the second quarter of the game. However, UPH propelled forward, adding 20 points to their score. UPH’s guard-forward, Audy Natazia Christy Louis Thoe (88), scored eight points, six of which from two three-point shots in the second quarter. The first half of the game then ended, with a score of 29-9.

The Alligators – Unpar’s team – managed to double its scores in the second quarter; but UPH made the gap even bigger with 48-18. Michelle Kurniawan (6) made the most points in the third quarter, contributing six points for the team.

The Eagles’ domination against the Alligators continues. UPH managed to add 15 more points, while Unpar managed only seven. The duel ended with a score of 63-25. Audy became the top scorer in this quarter with seven points, making her MVP of the game, scoring 17 points in total. She also made 7 rebounds, the largest number among UPH players, and only two rebounds fewer than Unpar’s Rr. Ulfiana Rachmani (17). Unpar’s Point Guard, Jessica Silvia Kristanto (7), made the most assists in the game- 4 in total.

UPH now is waiting for its opponent in the finale, which will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2018 – either Universitas Surabaya (Ubaya) or Universitas Esa Unggul (UEU).

“The students showed confidence in this game. They can finally play without pressure after three rough games in the group round. However, we still have to prepare ourselves for the finale,” said Fajar Kusumasari, UPH Eagles Woman’s Basketball coach. She assured that whichever university UPH will face in the finale will be a challenging opponent for the team.
