Faith and Learning Festival 2019: A Lecturer’s Practical Guide in Preparing Graduates with Integrity.

Tangerang, November 15, 2019 – As a university that focuses on the integration of Christian Faith in its learning process, for the second time, Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) held a Faith and Learning Festival that aims to equip lecturers with a practical guide upon enhancing their skills in integrating faith with learning process. This was done as a part of UPH’s commitment in preparing its graduates to become individuals with integrity who can live by their faith, even after they entered the professional world.

With ‘Perspectives from The Workplace and The Campus’ as its theme, the Faith and Learning Festival was held in UPH Lippo Village on November 15, 2019. The Festival was filled with key speakers from various backgrounds including Dr. Iur Damos Dumoli Agusman – Director General for Legal Affairs and International Treaties (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia), Darwis Manalu – Founder of Data Corp., Norita Alex – Director of Talent Admin PT Lippo Karawaci, Tb., as well a number of UPH lecturers and alumni.

“According to the chosen theme, this festival will talk about 3 main focuses: ‘what a Christian graduate should prepare’, ‘the performance of UPH Christian graduates’, and ‘what can we do to integrate faith and learning process inside the classroom better’. Through a variety of explanations from various key speakers, hopefully, this activity can bridge the lecturer’s world with the professional world. So that in the end, we can prepare UPH students to live their calling passionately,” said Matthew R. Malcolm, Ph.D. – Dean of UPH Faculty of Liberal Arts (FLA).

This festival aims to involve approximately 200 participants and is open for the public, however, most of the participants turned out to be UPH lecturers. Malcolm explained that this event has been designed to inspire, give insights from numerous perspectives, and to provide a practical guide for self-development. There were various activities that participants could enjoy in the festival including talk show, presentation, and a Q&A session.

Malcolm also explains that this festival is really important, especially upon realizing the facts that most of time, there is a lack of integration between the perspectives of lecturers, industry, and the graduates. This festival then becomes a place to unite the three, enabling them to communicate, exchange ideas, making integration possible. At the end of the day, this will strengthen the cooperation between the three upon preparing faithful graduates who has been equipped before joining the professional world.

Aside from discussions, all participants also got a booklet, filled with practical tips about preparing a better faith-integrated learning in class. (mt)
