UPH Festival 2019 presents Human Configuration Involving Thousands of Students Showing the Diversity of Indonesian Cultures.

Tangerang, August 17, 2019 – UPH Festival is the biggest annual event held by Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) welcoming new students as well as introducing UPH to the public. The series of activities for four days, August 14-17 2019, ended coincidentally with the commemoration of independence day, with special and festive performances.

Human configuration became the final show in the whole series of UPH Festival 2019. Taking the theme ‘Diversity of Indonesian Cultures’, the show was intended to foster nationalism to the new students and the entire academic community.

As many as 2700 new students participated in this show, collaborating with five Student Clubs (UKM), including Spirit Dance Company (SDC), UPH Nusantara Dance Company (NDC), Production Troops, Lighthouse Singers & Art Band, while the dancers were students of Teachers College (TC) and Faculty of Nursing (FoN). All of them are under the direction of the Staff of the Student Life Department and the lecturers UPH Conservatory of Music (CoM).

What’s interesting about this year’s performance is the high level of difficulty because of the number of formations formed in a fairly fast time, only 30 minutes, forming 13 formations.

“This is a challenge in itself, because accuracy and speed are the main keys. Moreover, these new students only practice once with the dancers, in one and a half hours, on August 15, 2019, in the break time of UPH Festival,” said Fransiskus Asisi Handoyo, UPH Student Activity Specialist.

This human configuration is also enlivened by music designed and performed by UPH Conservatory of Music (CoM). The music performed illustrates the spirit of nationalism of Indonesian young people: the songs performed are traditional songs, including Manuk Dadali and Yamko Rambe Yamko, which have been arranged with the addition of contemporary musical elements, such as Electronic Dance Music (EDM) and pop song arrangements.

Delicia Mandy, S.Sn, M.Mus., Head of the CoM study program, stated that she and her team began designing the setlist and arrangement of songs in May, while routine training began in August 2019. The performance involved 58 personnel consisting of students the top level up to the initial level, lecturers, and even UPH CoM alumni.

“This event is also to unite UPH CoM family, through performing together at UPH Festival like in previous years,” explained Mandy.

“UPH CoM has been established for 20 years, and we have quite a lot of graduates, and they are scattered in various fields and various places. An event like this is a place where we can regroup and strengthen relationships within the UPH CoM family,” She added.

This performance and human configuration were greeted excitingly by new students. The musical performance from UPH CoM also accompanied by the fireworks display that adorned the sky at the end of the event at 19.00 at night, which marked the completion of the 2019 UPH Festival event series.

The series of UPH Festival 2019 has ended. Now is the time for the new students to start their lecture trips on the UPH campus. Through this UPH Festival event, UPH hopes to liven up the spirit of the student to achieve the best results in campus life, both spiritually and emotionally.
