Dies Natalis XVIII, FK UPH Commits to Deliver Quality Doctors.

UPH’s Medical School (FK UPH) has been committed, for 18 years since its creation in 2001, to deliver quality doctors by giving them the best education. Taking on the theme ‘Walking Hand in Hand, Reaching for the Highest’, FK UPH commits to work together with the entire FK UPH body to improve the quality of education to deliver competent doctors for Indonesia. The peak of Dies Natalis FK UPH XVIII was held on 8 November 2019 at the Gedung Baru Lantai 9 FK UPH, Lippo Village.

In the event, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc., delivered that FK UPH’s creation is a gift.

UPH Chancellor said with pride, “FK UPH’s journey is a gift, grace upon grace. If we look back to the past, there was so much work put into the creation of FK UPH and to let it stand straight and to be used by God to prepare competent doctors for the nation. We are here today, and we achieve Accreditation A only by His grace. With this theme, let us work together to achieve the highest we can by His grace to deliver quality doctors.”

Appreciating Dies Natalis FK XVIII, Prof. Dr. Dr. dr. Eka J. Wahjoepramono, Sp. BS., Ph.D., Dean of FK UPH, appealed that FK UPH students will apply the creativity they showed on stage so that it will be useful in their studies and professions like doctors.

According to dr. Nata Pratama Hardjo Lugito, Sp.PD, Dean of FK UPH and Head Committee of Dies Natalis FK UPH XVIII, FK UPH has developed for the past 18 years. This was shown through their various achievements, such as obtaining the A Accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (Ban PT) and student achievements in national and international competitions. These student achievements include achieving a second place at the Regional Medical Olympiad (RMO) 2019 in the cardio-respiratory category, a gold medal in the International Medical Olympiad (IMO) 2019 in the cardio-respiratory category, and many more.

In addition, dr. Andree Kurniawan, Sp.Pd, Vice Dean of Student Affairs talked more of FK UPH’s achievements academically.

dr. Andree said, “We are proud of FK UPH graduates who achieved the 85 to 90 percent level in the Doctor Profession Program Student Competency Test (UKMPPD). Then, to enrich the students’ knowledge, FK UPH collaborated with Melbourne University to start the exchange medical students’ program on their fifth semesters up to the neuroscience block.”

dr. Andree also emphasized research as one proof of FK UPH’s achievements. Other than the students’ thesis research, FK UPH is pushing for more research that involves both professors and students. Several pieces of research have been published at the International Symposium at Kyoto, Bangkok, Hanoi, and Busan. Looking at FK UPH’s student affairs, dr. Andree also observed that FK UPH students have become more active and are not limited to the academic side. This was shown by the creation of extracurricular clubs (UKM) such as UKM Band, Photography, and Sports.

As thanksgiving of FK UPH’s 18 years of establishment, Dies Natalis FK UPH XVIII presented various activities, on top of the symposium and a workshop on obesity with the experts in that area, such as community service in the form of cervix cancer screening, health education in rural towns of Banten, and competitions.

dr. Andree explained, “There were competitions such as Scooby-Doo (School of Brilliant Young Doctors), which is a two-day activity where high school students were invited to experience university life and participate in discussions as if they were in the university already. The goal is for students to get an image of what it is like as an FK UPH student. There is also the Medicup competition between students of different years, staff, and FK UPH professors. The Medicup competition has various activities such as basketball, e-sports, badminton, dodgeball, soccer, and dance.”

In its 18th year, FK UPH strives to keep on moving forward, to be capable in preparing Indonesian doctors who are competent, be recognized in Indonesia and internationally, and to be doctors who glorify God in all their work and the community.
