UPH, BEI, and PT Sucor Sekuritas Presents Investment Gallery for Students and Instructors.

Tangerang, 11 December 2019 – To help students and instructors understand more about funding and investment, Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) presented the corner of stock exchange named UPH Investment Gallery (Galeri Investasi UPH). The facility was made official on 11 December 2019 at Gedung F UPH Lippo Village campus by the UPH Chancellor Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc., PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI) Director of Development Hasan Fawzi, and President Director of PT Sucor Sekuritas Bagus Abimanyu Lulu, SE., Ak., MA., CA., CPA. The facility is UPH’s commitment to creating leading human resources (SDM) and the ability to compete within the nation and internationally in funding and investment.

UPH Chancellor welcomed enthusiastically and said, “We welcome the collaboration between UPH and BEI and Sucor through the Investation Gallery. Through this facility, we can see the policies and perspectives around the capital market nationally and internationally. Therefore, this is not only about theory, but it is also applicative.”

After making it official, there was a signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) related to the activities performed by UPH, BEI, and PT Sucor Sekuritas, covering educational programs of funding and investment that presents professionals from BEI and Sucor Sekuritas as speakers, data facilities for research and students’ final projects, and other activity programs such as Sucor online trading application training called SPOT (Sucor Personal Online Trading), group study on capital market, and visits to the IDX.

William Tjong, B.Sc., MBA., Ph.D. – Director of UPH Investment Gallery said that this investment gallery will answer the needs of both student and instructor.

Tjong said, “In this Investment Gallery, students will be given the right education about the right funding and investment. The students can also create a final research project using the data accessed from the BEI website, both real-time and historical data.”

This aligns with PT BEI’s focus to introduce the capital market through the investment gallery. Fawzi believes that the campus is the right place to introduce the capital market to the students.

Fawzi said, “UPH becomes the 17th investment gallery at Banten. There are 472 investment galleries in total that were made official across Indonesia. With cooperation between three parties, we hope that we can increase the understanding of courtesy services. We want students and instructors to not only understand the theories but to also start investing step by step until they are good at it. Students can also apply their theories that were facilitated by us and to dig deep research topic potentials in the financial sector.”

Lulu added that the knowledge of the capital market must be taught at an early age.

Lulu said, “As of October 2019, the number of investors in the capital market was only 0.9% of the 268 million population of Indonesia. This is still a very small number. Therefore, we hope that the Investment Gallery will become the means to introduce the capital market in the academic field and to practice simulations and do transactions. UPH is the fifth educational institute that has an Investment Gallery as a result of collaboration with Sucor and BEI.”

In addition to benefits for the students, instructors are given the ease of access to data from various supporting parties. The data that can be accessed will be used by instructors as research and educational material for the students and the public. This way, it is counted as community service (PKM).

In the future, the UPH Investment Gallery will collaborate with UPH Business Incubator to facilitate students in receiving funding through the BEI incubation program.
