Being an educational institution that promotes holistic value has become the focus of Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) since its inception. This means that students are educated not only to advance from the academic side, but also to be able to explore and develop their potential. It is done through developing student interests through various, diverse UPH’s Student Activity Units (UKM).
In order to show these diverse potentials, UPH held ‘UPH Talent Show’ on November 28th, 2018, at UPH’s Grand Chapel in Lippo Village Campus. This event is a showcase of talents from students, specifically the first-year students. Seeing it, Dr. Curtis Taylor, the deputy chancellor for Student Affairs, enthusiastically welcomed the event.
“The UPH Talent Show is a real example of how we, at UPH, promote holistic education. As God’s creation, human creativity is one of ways we can show ourselves as the image and likeness of God. We appreciate art just as our Creator also appreciates art. ”
Dr. Taylor also praised students who participated in performing their talents. All of them show their talents with a high level of proficiency resulted from the excellent training in the UKM (Student Activity Unit) where they join in. Some even have reached international standards.
“My wife and I really enjoyed the show!”
He admitted that this opportunity was indeed important to support student learning. For most students, the college years may be the only time for them to demonstrate their abilities in arts and other fields, with the support of complete resources and facilities provided at UPH. Later, if they decide to continue their careers in the arts, what can be obtained while studying at UPH can later be an asset to be developed. In addition, such event exhibited students’ real actions in using their talents to entertain audiences and praise God.
For Dr. Curtis, one of the most interesting things from this event was that almost all aspects and preparations were carried out by students, ranging from contestants, multimedia settings, photography, videography, event production, make-up, and others.
“I’m always amazed at the quality of UPH’s production programs. At this event, all aspects are managed by students, which means they can develop their talents and interests all for the glory of God,” Dr. Curtis ended his statement.
The UPH Talent Show, which involved 15 UKM, was an event that demonstrated the potential development practices that had been carried out through UPH’s UKM. The various potentials of students included the preparation, the stage management, event organizers, and, of course, the performers. (ha / mt)
