Departement Chair of Architecture Program

Andreas Y. Wibisono is the Chair of the Architecture Department and a lecturer. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Parahyangan University and his master’s degree from Tarumanagara University. His research focus includes architectural theory, architecture and narrative, design methods, and creativity. He also serves as the coordinator of the third-year design studio. He has curated several national exhibitions, such as the UPH Architecture Triennale (2015): Time is Space, Mode of Seeing – Sal Project (2021), and Reflections of Questions (2022), and has worked as an assistant curator for international events such as Tropicality: Revisited, Frankfurt, 2015.

Emanuel Agung Wicaksono is a licensed architect and lecturer with academic and professional expertise in materiality, construction, and structural systems within architectural design. He holds a Master’s degree in Architecture and is currently pursuing his Doctoral studies at Universitas Katolik Parahyangan. His doctoral research focuses on architectural tectonics and resilience, particularly exploring how construction logics and material systems contribute to adaptive and robust built environments.

With a strong background in design methodology and building technology, Emanuel integrates theoretical knowledge with practical applications in both his academic and professional work. His research interests include tectonic expression, resilient architecture, coastal settlement adaptation, and the relationship between form, material, and environmental performance.

Emanuel also teaches in the Architecture Department, where he is responsible for Thematic Architectural Design Studio 2 and Integrated Architectural Design Studio 2. In these courses, he guides students through design explorations that combine conceptual development, technical resolution, and contextual responsiveness. His approach emphasizes critical thinking, experimentation, and the synthesis of design with construction realities.

Emanuel continues to contribute to architectural discourse through research, teaching, and collaborative design initiatives especialy comunity development and architectural design competition

Ar. Andreas Handoyo, M.T., is a passionate lecturer in the Architecture Program at Pelita Harapan University, where he brings together more than a decade of professional practice and academic exploration to enrich the studio culture. He earned his Master of Architecture from Parahyangan Catholic University (UNPAR), specializing in human behavior, settlements, and the urban environment, fields that continue to shape his perspective on how cities influence people’s everyday lives.

His research focus on urban design and housing, with a particular focus on how the built environment can enhance residents’ quality of life. He is especially interested in the relationship between spatial configuration, user behavior, and how thoughtful design can contribute to more inclusive, resilient, and liveable urban spaces.

Beyond research, Andreas is known for his strong skills in architectural drawing and visual illustration. He uses hand-drawing, digital sketching, and visual storytelling as tools to clarify complex ideas, communicate design intentions, and inspire his students to see drawing as both a thinking process and a design method.

At the university, he teaches Architectural Design Studio, Urban Space and Dynamics, and the professional preparation program, mentoring students to integrate environmental and spatial analysis into their work.

Holds a Doctor of Architecture degree from the Graduate Program, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Katolik Parahyangan, with a research focus on urban space and morphology, particularly in relation to regulation and policy. Currently serves as a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Design, Universitas Pelita Harapan, where teaching responsibilities include Architecture of the Ordinary and People’s Behaviours, Urban Morphology, Architectural Research Studio, and Architectural Design Studio.
Research interests encompass typology and morphology, urban architecture, and public space design. Recent research projects involve urban regeneration through morphological and functional approaches, as well as urban heritage studies. Additional experience includes community development initiatives related to health facilities and tourism village development.

Dr. Susinety Prakoso is an Associate Professor at Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH). She earned her Doctor of Architecture degree from Universitas Indonesia, after completing dual master’s degrees in Urban Design and Landscape Architecture from the University of Colorado, Denver. Her academic journey began with a bachelor’s degree in Architecture Engineering from Universitas Tarumanagara.

Her research expertise includes housing studies, urban design, and children–environment relationships, with a particular focus on children’s attachment to places. She has published extensively in reputable journals and conference proceedings. Her research on child-friendly public spaces, spatial studies of home-based businesses, and livable housing environments has influenced design research and policy discussions in Indonesia.

At UPH, Dr. Prakoso teaches courses in Site Planning, Introduction to Housing and Human Settlement, Architecture and Urban Space, and Landscape Design. Her dedication to community impact is clear through various development projects, including the Bojongkulur Tourism Masterplan, child-friendly orphanage housing design, elderly park design, urban kampong redevelopment, and several public space revitalization efforts. She continues to promote evidence-based, community-centered design through funding from both internal and national research grants.

Undi Gunawan is an academic committed to transforming design education by integrating architectural theory, design thinking, and creative problem-solving methodologies. As a lecturer at Universitas Pelita Harapan with nearly two decades of experience, he specializes in bridging theoretical knowledge and practical application for students and professionals alike. Holding a doctoral degree from Universitas Katolik Parahyangan, his expertise encompasses educational innovation, creative and critical design strategies, and facilitations (i.e. LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®). Undi is actively engaged in research, international conferences, and collaborative workshops, fostering critical and creative capacity for navigating complex contemporary challenges. He welcomes opportunities for collaboration in design education, facilitation, and spatial-methodology research to advance innovative teaching and learning practices.

Martin was educated, trained, and graduated as an architect at the Universitas Kristen Indonesia (UKI), get a Master and Ph.D. at the School of Architecture, Planning, and Policy Development, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). In architectural practice Martin are mostly acknowledged for Rumah Besi (steel house) that was nominated in 2011 Indonesian Architect Association Award – an experimental (sustainable) home created within the urban kampong, as an inspiration source for the surrounding community. In academic institution, Martin became a lecturer in Interior Design department, Faculty of Design, Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) since 2005 until now. Martin held the position of Head of Department of Interior Design from 2010-2013 and from 2018-2024 as the Dean of School of Design UPH. Propelled by his passion in architecture and his obsession of always pushing its limits, in 2012 Martin while doing his dissertation, developed ‘Design as Generator’ (DAG) methodology – where he explores the possibility of making design as a champion, a generator of change within community. With DAG, Martin had many projects, especially in urban kampong in South Tangerang, Tangerang, North Jakarta, Depok, even in remote places, such as in Rote Island, Papua, and Kalimantan. In 2022-2023 Martin and UPH Team developed Urban Slum Prevention Policy and Urban Slum Quality Improvement Policy for DKI Jakarta Provincial Public Housing and Settlement Area. At the same time Martin and UPH Team also did International Cooperation with Singapore Polytechnic to do social innovation design in various place at North Jakarta and Ciakar, Tangerang until now. Martin believes that ‘design should become light for others!’, and this is the value that Martin and his teaching team brings to the Design, Society and Environment class at Faculty of Design, UPH, where students will actively involve empowering and transform the society in need through redemptive design.

Bambang Tutuka Adi Nugroho is a lecturer at the Interior Design Program, Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH), where he has been teaching since 2006. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from UPH in 2006 and later pursued a Master’s degree in Engineering Physics at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), graduating in 2014.
His academic and professional interests focus on acoustics, lighting design, materials, and furniture—fields where he integrates technical and aesthetic knowledge. With his interdisciplinary background, Bambang contributes to the development of a comprehensive interior design education that bridges creativity with scientific understanding. He is dedicated to nurturing future designers by emphasizing both functional and experiential aspects of interior spaces.

Ignatius Adrian Santana holds a Bachelor’s degree from Universitas Pelita Harapan and a Master’s degree from Universitas Indonesia, with professional experience as lecturer, designer, architectural researcher, and property management. Steffany Hartono is a lecturer in the Architecture Program at Universitas Pelita Harapan. Vanya Tjioe is a lecturer in the Interior Design Program at the Faculty of Design, Universitas Pelita Harapan. She is passionate about exploring the relationships between objects, culture, space, and materials—particularly how these elements shape human experiences within designed environments. A graduate of Universitas Pelita Harapan for both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees, Vanya brings her expertise into courses such as Design Foundation, Design Methods and Research, and Studio Design. Her work focuses on advancing meaningful, human-centered, and empathic design approaches that respond thoughtfully to people and their everyday interactions. Her research centers on learning processes related to developing interactive and experimental objects or spaces that foster social engagement and deepen human connection.

Agnes Satyawati Azarza holds a Master’s degree in Educational Technology and serves as a faculty member in the Interior Design Program. Her expertise lies in interior design studios, with a particular emphasis on public interior environments and narrative-based design methods. She teaches courses in Public Interior Design Studio, Narrative Design, Creative Thinking, and Collaborative Design Research.

Her academic work focuses on developing narrative approaches to spatial design and integrating craft-based practices into contemporary interior design processes. She is actively involved in research and community engagement projects related to the preservation and revitalization of Betawi Pesisir cultural heritage. Her scholarly work explores how local stories, identity, and spatial experience can shape meaningful, community-oriented design strategies.

As both practitioner and lecturer, she works to bridge academia, creative industries, and local communities through interdisciplinary collaboration. She contributes to workshops, exhibitions, and public education initiatives that position design as a tool for cultural continuity and innovation. Her professional trajectory reflects a strong alignment between theory, applied practice, and community-centered design development.

Phebe holds a Master’s degree in Design with an academic focus on interior design. Her research explores the interior as a dynamic environment shaped by reuse and repair practices, decorative strategies, and approaches to sustainability within spatial design. She is particularly interested in how everyday material cultures, maintenance processes, and adaptive transformations of space reveal broader design logics and social values embedded in interiors. These themes inform both of her scholarly work and her teaching. She teach Design Studio, where she guide students through the full cycle of spatial exploration, from conceptual development and material experimentation to spatial articulation and critical reflection. Her studio emphasizes an inquiry-driven design process that encourages students to understand interiors not only as aesthetic compositions but also as systems shaped by use, temporality, and ecological responsibility. Through this integrated approach, she aim to cultivate designers who are sensitive to context, resourceful in their methods, and capable of imagining more sustainable interior futures.

Devanny Gumulya is a design lecturer with a doctoral degree in Research Management from Pelita Harapan University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Product Design from Pelita Harapan University and a Master of Science in Product-Service System Design from Politecnico di Milano. Her interdisciplinary academic background enables her to teach a wide range of subjects, including design history, service design, design management, and community-centered design. Her research interests span cultural product design, innovation frameworks for studio-based learning, and educational media for community. She is committed to advancing design pedagogy and developing methods that strengthen students’ creativity, cultural understanding, and design capability across contexts.

Susi Hartanto is a design lecturer with a Bachelor’s degree in Product Design and a Master’s degree in Retail Management. Her professional portfolio includes export-oriented furniture collections, hospitality accessories, and exhibition works, which directly enrich her studio-based teaching. She teaches a range of courses including Sustainable Furniture Design, Furniture Design for the Market, Design Management, Computer Modeling, Technical Drawing, Internship, and Final Project Supervision, emphasizing iterative processes and industry-ready skills.Her research roadmap spans three clusters: 1) furniture design methods—database-driven design, finishing systems, manufacturing strategy, and sustainable material exploration; 2) SDG 11 & 12 cultural studies, including Indonesian heritage-inspired designs and materials; and 3) digital fashion product development—pattern digitization, virtual try-on, and AI-aided fashion content. Through collaborations with manufacturers and brands, she integrates technology, sustainability, and cultural relevance to prepare students for evolving design industries.

Sheena is a lecturer in the Product Design program at UPH. She holds a Master’s degree in Media Design from Keio University, Japan, where she focused on educational design media and user experience.
Her work explores how design can enhance learning, communication, and collaboration in educational and community settings, with interests in sustainability and cross-cultural design. She also publishes in accredited national and international journals.
Sheena has built a strong international network through collaborations with educators and designers from Japan, South Korea, India, the Philippines, and Singapore, enriching her global design perspective.
At UPH, she teaches courses from first to fourth year, including Design Thinking and Innovation, UI/UX Design, Design Presentation, and Design Research. Beyond teaching, she designs and facilitates workshops that combine creative methods with practical tools to help students, teachers, and partner communities solve problems through design.

Ellis Melini, S.Sn., M.T. is a lecturer in the Visual Communication Design program at Universitas Pelita Harapan, where she teaches graphic design studios, typography, design methodology, and supervises final-year projects. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication Design and a Master’s degree in Industrial Technology, a combination that underpins her ability to bridge creative exploration with analytical and technical thinking.

In her academic work, she integrates design fundamentals with technological perspectives, encouraging students to approach visual problem-solving through both conceptual rigor and practical execution. Her teaching and research interests center on layout systems, brand identity development, typography, and UI/UX design—areas that reveal her focus on how visual communication adapts within evolving digital and cultural contexts. Alfiansyah Zulkarnain is a lecturer in the Department of Visual Communication Design at Universitas Pelita Harapan, where his academic work centers on visual language, narrative structures, and digital media aesthetics.

He is currently a doctoral candidate at the Faculty of Art and Design, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), where his research investigates the visual style of pixel art. He holds a Master of Design (M.Ds.) from Universitas Trisakti and a Bachelor of Arts (S.Sn.) from Universitas Pelita Harapan. His academic background also includes studies in Graphic Design at Ouachita Baptist University, USA.

His teaching portfolio is comprehensive, covering both studio practice and theoretical studies. He leads design studios in graphic design, animation, and cinematography, and his theory courses encompass subjects such as the histories of art, design, and film, Indonesian visual culture, media and culture studies, and aesthetics. His research interests, reflected in his publications, include visual storytelling in interactive media, the narrative functions of digital aesthetics, and visual semiotics.

Eston Kamelang Mauleti (b. 1969), teaches Basic Studio Design, Illustration, and Drawing courses, and has strong academic and professional interests in illustration and poster design. He has been a lecturer at the School of Design, Universitas Pelita Harapan, since 2000. He earned both his undergraduate and master’s degrees in Graphic Design from Trisakti University, Jakarta, Indonesia. He also writes scholarly journal articles related to drawing, illustration, and poster design.

He has been actively participating in poster exhibitions since 2005. His works have been selected and showcased in numerous international poster competitions across countries such as Germany, the United Kingdom, Hungary, Switzerland, Poland, Belgium, Estonia, the United States, Russia, South Korea, Japan, China, Mexico, Jamaica, Iraq, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia. He continues to receive frequent invitations to international poster exhibitions from South Korea, Japan, China, Mexico, Switzerland, and various other countries.

In 2017, Eston received First Prize in the Graphic Information category at the Indonesian Graphic Design Awards 2 (IGDA 2).

Ferdinand holds a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication Design and a Master’s degree in Philosophy. His academic background reflects a sustained interest in the intersections between design, art, and philosophical inquiry—an interdisciplinary orientation that continues to shape both his teaching and research. His areas of expertise include design theory, visual arts, and philosophical aesthetics, with particular attention to how conceptual frameworks inform creative practices and visual culture. His research interest focuses on the convergences between artistic expression, visual communication, and philosophical reflection, especially in relation to perception, meaning-making, and the cultural functions of design. Recently, he has been teaching courses such as Typography, Visual Perception, Aesthetics, Art History, and the Final Thesis Project. Through these courses, he aims to cultivate critical and reflective thinking capacities. Such capacities are considerably vital for future designers. Vital for them to see themselves not merely as designers but also as responsible citizens who are grounded and unified in humanity. Therefore, they shall have concerns not only to technical and creative competence but also to the broader intellectual, ethical, socio-political, and cultural contexts of their work. This is his hope.

Hady Soenarjo served as a Lecturer in the Visual Communication Design (VCD) Department at Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) from 2010 to 2025. He holds a Master of Design degree from Universitas Trisakti. His core competencies are in Graphic Design, Illustration, and Graphic Printmaking. He is experienced in teaching courses such as Drawing, Illustration, Printmaking, Clay Art, and Design for Community projects.

Kartika is a lecturer in the Visual Communication Design Program at Universitas Pelita Harapan. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication Design from UPH and a master’s degree in Product Design from Universitas Trisakti. Her academic interests include graphic design, typography, branding, user interface design, and contemporary visual culture. She teaches a variety of subjects such as Branding, UI/UX Design, Environmental Graphic Design, and Contemporary Graphic Design. Beyond teaching, Kartika is passionate about creative direction and visual storytelling, and often explores how design intersects with culture, emotion, and everyday experiences.

An emerging scholar in the fields of narrative storytelling, cultural studies, visual semiotics, brand identity and character design, with academic record that integrates media analysis, art theory, and interdisciplinary humanities research. His recent work explores the relationship between myth, archetypes, and contemporary visual culture in comic superhero. His research interests extend to animation studies, cross-cultural semiotics in global character design, and the evolving symbolic structures in video games, comics, and interactive media. In academic settings, Naldo teaches subjects related to visual communication, cultural theory, narrative design, and interdisciplinary discourse analysis. His pedagogical approach emphasizes critical thinking, symbolic depth, and the integration of theoretical frameworks with creative practice. He completed his undergraduate studies in Visual Communication Design (S1 Desain Komunikasi Visual) at Universitas Pelita Harapan and his master’s degree in Multimedia (S2 also in Universitas Pelita Harapan), and is currently pursuing a doctoral program (S3) at Institut Teknologi Bandung Faculty of Art and Design. Naldo continues to develop his research toward publication in reputable international platforms, contributing to the advancement of character design studies within Southeast Asian cultural scholarship.

Shannon is a lecturer in the Visual Communication Design Program at Universitas Pelita Harapan. She holds a bachelor’s degree from UPH and a master’s degree from Universitas Trisakti. She teaches materials related to Character Design, 2D Animation, Digital Illustration, Drawing, and Computer Graphics. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she serves as the Computer Lab Coordinator and Promotion Event Coordinator for the program. She is committed to advancing character design and animation education, and to contributing to the ongoing development of character design and animation studies.

A Bachelor of Fashion Design graduate (Cum Laude) and Master of Design from Telkom University, her work includes designing an official traditional batik motif for the Sumedang Larang Palace, which then gaining Intellectual Property Rights (IPR/HaKI) for the SiSinga Illustration as her bachelor thesis, and designing a contemporary motif for brand communication based on the theory of neuroscience to recreate Sundanese values in visual design for the master thesis.

Her research focus span from Traditional Visual Cultures, Visual Narration, Fashion Design, and Digital Design. As an educator, she teaches a range of design-focused subjects from fundamental arts, including Basic Drawing, Visual Narration Design, History of Art and Civilization, and Fashion Design. Dedicated and culturally curious, she continues to explore the intersection of tradition, storytelling, and modern design.

Rie Naftali Sebastian, S.Sn., M.Des., is a faculty member in the Visual Communication Design Department at Universitas Pelita Harapan and an alumnus of UPH’s Visual Communication Design program (2012), as well as a graduate of the Master’s program in Visual Communication Design at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST), Taiwan, in 2022. With years of professional working experience in publishing and graphic design, she specializes in graphic design, book design, editorial design, branding, packaging design, and related creative fields. Several of her book designs have also been exhibited at international book fairs. Her research focuses on digital and print media on editorial design, as well as the reading experience among readers and users. She teaches several courses which concentrate on Graphic Design Studio, Typography, and Art Aesthetics.

A Bachelor of Design graduate from Universitas Pelita Harapan with core expertise in Visual Narrative, including sequential art, storyboarding, and pre-production animation. My research interests center on Interactive Narrative Design and Transmedia Visual Storytelling, particularly how visual cues, narrative structure, and character design shape immersive storytelling experiences across various media formats. I currently teach courses in Visual Narrative Design and Game Art & Design, focusing on story development, worldbuilding, and character creation for both interactive and non-interactive media. My academic and creative interests include developing visual methodologies for communicating complex narratives, examining storytelling consistency in transmedia systems, exploring player agency within interactive narratives, and utilizing storyboards and animatics as conceptual tools within design pipelines.

Felicia is a Permanent Teaching Assistant in the Visual Communication Design Program at Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH). She completed her bachelor’s degree in visual communication design with a specialization in Animation at UPH. Her professional skills include illustration and proficiency in various design software, which she applies both in her creative work and teaching activities.

Felicia’s academic and creative focus lie in the field of animation, covering both 2D and 3D approaches. At UPH, she assists in teaching various technical and illustration-based courses such as Traditional Drawing, Illustration, Sculpting, Game Art & Design, as well as 2D and 3D Animation.

Up to the present, Felicia has achieved several creative accomplishments and experiences. She earned 2nd place in the “Sport Mania” character design competition (2018) by Faber-Castell, 3rd place in the “Comic Strip Competition Ichiban Sushi Matsuri,” and placed in the Top 10 of the “Creativity in Your Hands” competition by Faber-Castell, among others.

In addition to her focus on animation, she also has supplementary experience related to film and photography. She participated as an extras crew member for the TV show “”Cinta Sedalam Rindu”” and served as one of the talents in the “Cosplay Photohunt” photography event organized by FujishopID.
