Once again, UPH held study program socialization to prospective students and parents, this time to those who are interested in UPH Faculty of Medicine. The event is a routine program of UPH namely Dean?s Talk, where the Deans and heads of faculties would give direct information to the prospective students and parents. On Saturday, September 5, 2015, UPH held Dean?s Talk Faculty of Medicine, attended by 81 participants. Generally they are parents who would enroll their children to UPH Faculty of Medicine.

 

Prof. George Mathew, Executive Dean of Faculty of Medicine and Health Science, President of Medical Science Group and Dr.dr.Allen Widysanto Sp.P., Vice Dean in Academic Affairs attended as speakers.

 

In his presentation, Prof. George shared about the development of UPH Faculty of Medicine. ?We are very proud of UPH Faculty of Medicine as one of the private faculties with good reputation. The Founder really pays attention in the development of the academic in UPH Faculty of Medicine. This is proven with the perseverance in the academic program of medicine, which integrated with the research center MRIN (Mochtar Riady Institute for Nanotechnology) and Public Hospital, Siloam as the teaching hospital. The growth of student numbers year to year is increasing significantly. UPH Faculty of Medicine is accredited with B and is always developed to be better. UPH Faculty of Medicine has the complete and modern learning facilities. It is not easy to execute a high quality medicine education. UPH Faculty of Medicine gives the best education supoorted by various partners,? Prof. George said while showing some UPH Faculty of Medicine facilities in his presentation such as new building with modern class room and learning facilities including anatomy facility, clinical laboratorium and a complete library. ?With those facilities, the students are taught to not only master the theory but also competent in using the tools. Because a great doctor?s competency is not only measured by the knowledge but also in the mastery of clinical skill and laboratory skill,? he added.

 

Furthermore, Dr. Allen shared about the academic system in UPH Faculty of Medicine. ?The academic system in UPH Faculty of Medicine is PBL (Problem Base Learning). This system is vert good in helping the students to be active. Thus, the UPH Faculty of Medicine students must read a lot and with the tutorial system, the students are motivated to share information to their fellows, so that the knowledge is broaden. The ration between student and tutor is 1:10, which is ideal. So, the tstudents can received a comprehensive knowledge,? Dr. Allen said. She also mentioned about a couple of achievements by UPH Faculty of Medicine students in various national competition. Firmly, Dr. Allen reminded that the education in UPH Faculty of Medicine is very strict and the students are not allowed to skip class without a clear reason. The learning process of students is not only in classroom, but also in hospital, such as Siloam Hospital teaching hospital facility. Although the subjects in UPH Faculty of Medicine are rather difficult, but UPH Faculty of Medicine facilitates students to be active in non-academic activity such as arts, community service, and student organizations. The relationship between lecturers and students are harmonious. ?Our final purpose is to produce a holistic and competitive doctor,? Dr. Allen said.

After the presentation finished, the parents were given chance to ask. Several things that became the concern of parents such as study cost, scholarship process, academic system, accreditation, and post-graduate program for specialist. Every question was answered completely by the speakers and after the event finished, the parents who still needed information had the chance to consult to UPH admission. (rh/nn)
