“Leadership Are Not The Same as Management” Universitas Pelita Harapan Graduate Program had held one day seminar with two international speakers. Dr. Peter Shephard, Ph. D. D. Litt a writer, researcher, and also a trainer for the whole brain thinking, and Cathy R. Johnson who is a senior consultant for Blessing White, Asia Pacific. This event was held in the new UPH Graduate Program campus in Plaza Semanggi Mall sector Business Granadha 3th floor. In the first session Dr. Shephard conveys a topic of Leadership and Productivity which discusses the strengthening of one’s thinking pattern both in his position as an employee as well as a leader in the their works. According to him there are differences in the terms of leadership and management. In general, people assume a leader is automatically has the capability to manage. Besides it is not always like that. Therefore he emphasize that someone does not need to be a leader to actually adjust the organization?s course based. But it does not always go like that. He explains briefly that not every person need to be a leader to actually lead the organizations (companies). This brain specialist said that the pattern of human brain differs between left brain and right brain, and studies prove that the thinking of men and women are different. This makes the leadership of men and women different in leading an organization. In the second session Ms. Cathy presents about the Employee Engagement: A Fresh Perspective. On this seminar she gave a model of the goals between individual goals and organizational goals. According to her there are two-way arrows, first is the opposite and the second is the one that is in the line. The conflicting arrows means the individual goals, in here is the employee, with the organizational goals are not in a line, where the organizational has the maximum satisfaction the individual are only having pressure, and vice versa. While the ideal conditions according to her is the one arrow that is in line where the organizational goals and individual goals are satisfied one to another.
