Thursday (21/1), UPH Student Senate Faculty of Law held a seminar called ?HAKI dalam Era Globalisasi? (HAKI in the Globalization Era) . HAKI stands for  Hak Atas Kekayaan Intelektual (Intellectual Property Rights).

The seminar, attended by UPH students, was given by Ir. Razilu, M.Si. –  Patent Director, HKI General Directorate, Human Rights and Law Ministry; Henry Soelistyo Budi, SH., LL.M. ? a lecturer of HAKI; and Dr. Cita Citrawinda Noerhadi, SH., MIP. ? a HAKI consultant.
In that three-session-seminar, the importance of recognizing the legal rights of one?s creation was discussed. The legal rights are such as Patent Rights, Copyrights, Industrial Design Rights, as well as Trade Confidentiality. Hence, it is expected that the case in which Malaysian patented leather puppets from Indonesia won?t be happening again.

Based on the BPPT and HKI?s data, the patent requests have increased 3-5% every year. ?Every year the percentage of people who patented their products has increased,? said Ir. Razilu, M.Si.
For students of Law Faculty, the seminar is very beneficial as an addition to HAKI subject they?re taking, how HAKI could be applied, and Indonesia?s role as a part of international convention for protecting the intellectual property. ?The seminar is good, and because I?m taking the HAKI class now, I get better understanding about HAKI,? said a student from Faculty of Law ? year 2007, after the seminar.
