Massimo Casagrande from Istituto Marangoni, Milan, Italy delivered a public lecture themed ?Trend Research and Collection Development? at UPH Building F 702 on Friday, April 29, 2011. The lecture attended by 56 participants carried out a rather unique topic, fashion. Massimo taught the students how to forecast the following season of fashion. To work in a fashion industry, we need to be able to predict the trend in two years later. Some of the main places to search for inspiration are the street, art/architecture, and technology. However, big brands like Louis Vuitton and Prada doesn?t need forecasters as they are trendsetters. To be able to forecast, research is important. There are six steps to good research: fashion research, conceptual research, subjective research, suggestive research, objects, and synthesis and co-ordination. Another important thing to keep in mind is to recognize the customer and market of the fashion. ?The customer and market always dictate what you do,? said Massimo firmly. Be in the commercial industry is another different thing. We have to consider the production cost as it is the highest cost in fashion industry. ?The guy in the shop is going to put the cost three times,? Massimo mentioned the reason why we should pay attention to production cost. Dean of UPH Business School Dr. Kim Sung Suk, B.A., M. Hum., M.Sc.said that the lecture was dedicated to all UPH students from all majors, especially to Management students who are in Entrepreneurship concentration. (dee) UPH Media Relations |
