In its 2011 graduation ceremony, Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) awarded degrees to 903 students at the Commencement XIX held on Saturday, May 28, at the UPH Grand Chapel, Karawaci. Of the 903 graduates, 753 received undergraduate degrees, 132 completed graduate programs, 13 were graduates of diploma IV programs, and 5 were graduates of diploma III programs. Among the graduates, there were also two dual degree recipients from the Master of Management program and the Master of Industrial Engineering program, Muryadi Yusuf and Yohan Chris.
UPH Rector, Dr. (Hon), Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc, opened the commencement ceremony. He challenged the graduates to use their education and opportunity to bring change and improvement to the nation. He said, “We send graduates from this campus knowing that they will be agents of hope, agents of change, and agents of transformation. Go as alumni who will bring achievements to industry and society.” The graduates are also expected to live out the vision of UPH, exemplified by true knowledge, faith in God, and godly character. Coordinator of Private Universities Region III (Kopertis Wilayah III), Prof. Dr. Ilza Mayuni, MA , also addressed the graduates at the ceremony: ?On behalf of the Directorate of the Higher Education General of Ministry for National Education, we congratulate the leaders, the entire UPH academic community at this Commencement XIX, and especially the graduates.” She explained that her hope is for UPH to share experiences with other universities. She said,? With good synergy, we can support each other to move forward in the context of the intellectual life of our beloved nation.? The Provost and Executive Vice President of Corban University, Oregon, USA, Dr. Matt Lucas served as the guest speaker. He expressed his pleasure at being invited to the UPH Commencement. “Congratulations!? Dr. Lucas told the graduates, ?I pray that you will have a happy and blessed life and that you will call on the power of God, to be peace makers in the world.” |

Graduates of note included Johan Kurnia from Faculty of Law (batch 2006) who represented Indonesia three times in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. “I am very happy to finally finish my degree. My study here at UPH has been very memorable with supportive friends, excellent facilities, and qualified lecturers,” said Johan. |
Also TV and movie stars, Nadia Saphira and Gita Prisilfia participated in the ceremony. Nadia Saphira graduated from the Faculty of Law (batch 2006). She expressed joy about studying and graduating from UPH. “I am very glad to finally finish my study, and I am proud that in UPH, there is absolutely no seniority and there are a lot of positive activities,” she said. Nadia plans to study Entertainment Law in London, beginning in September. | ![]() |

Gita Prisilfia, who graduated with an accounting degree (batch 2007), was also relieved. “It feels unreal that I have finished my study in 3.5 years, and I was glad to study at UPH because the environment highly supports the programs they offer,” she said. Gita will still be involved in the entertainment industry, but she also plans to look for other career opportunites. |
The graduation ceremonies were divided into two sessions: the morning session (8.30 to 12.00 pm) with 432 graduates and the afternoon session (01.00 to 04.00 pm) with 409 graduates. (pty) UPH Media Relations |
