Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) inaugurated 835 graduates on Saturday, December 3, 2011. Governor of Banten Hj. Ratu Atut Chosiyah, SE., parent of Andika Hazrumy, and Minister of Forestry Zulkifli Hasan, SE., MM., parent of Zita Anjani, attended the ceremony. In the parents remarks, Governor of Banten mentioned her gratitude and gladness as her son has succesfully finished his study. She ordered the graduates to wisely use their knowledge to develop the region, nation, and country. In terms of developing Banten, Governor suggested the universities in Banten, especially UPH, to always improve and contribute in order to accelerate the development of Banten and encourage the self-reliance and public welfare. ?Banten has so much potential. Therefore, it needs high quality human resources from universities in Banten,? she stated. Meanwhile, the Coordinator of Private Universities in Area III, Prof. Dr. Ilza Mayuni, MA. mentioned that the number of unemployed university graduates was still high. ?The economic growth is still not able able to cope the unemployment. This becomes UPH?s responsibility as the center of independent human resources development to be the actor and leader of change,? Ilza told. Ilza hoped that UPH would keep on improving its acceditation by research, innovative work, and continuous cooperation with world-class universities. Universities had to be able to provide affordable education, manpower, create employment that would lead to improvement of public welfare. In this opportunity, Former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia and Leader of the National Party of Australia The Hon John Anderson AO MA was also invited to gave commencement speech. He said that in hard times, the graduates must keep on fighting the integrity. To be a man with integrity, ethics, values, and consistency were needed. ?Be salt and light for the emerging Indonesia,? he stated. The ceremony was the 20th UPH Commencement and until now, UPH has inaugurated 13.500 graduates. UPH Rector Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc. in his speech reminded the graduated to be leaders with character in the future who possess integrity and intelligence in overcoming various obstacles. (ros) UPH Media Relations |
