Talk show Earth Hour: 60+ was held on Wednesday, March 28th 2012 at Caf? of Art, Food Junction, UPH. This talk show was the pre-event of Earth Hour, which will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2012. Attending as speakers were the Head of Mapala and the Coordinator of Earth Hour for Tangerang region.
?Earth Hour is one of Mapala?s project for this year. This Earth Hour is held in Tangerang for the first time,? said Yoseph, the Head of Mapala. Through this campaign, the committee invited UPH to participate by giving signature or petition. ?This campaign is intended to give awareness that our earth needs us. By knowing the damage suffered by our earth, UKM Mapala hopes earth hour could be conducted not only once a year, but it could be a new lifestyle at UPH,? Yoseph continued. Gina Karina, as the Coordinator of Earth Hour for Tangerang region, also said that earth hour was just an ?instrument? and was not the main purpose. ?Putting out the lights is just a symbolic action to save the earth. Our main purpose is to engage people to not only put the lights out for an hour, but also to save electricity toward,? said Gina. ?March 31 was chosen as the day of Global Earth Hour because the end of March is the time of transition from winter to summer, so even if we put the lights out, the air temperature is considered to be suitable?, Gina continued. Earth Hour itself was held for the first time in 2009, with only five participating cities. Nevertheless, along with the increasing of people?s awareness of earth?s survival, participating cities of Earth Hour also increasing to 18 cities, including Tangerang. |
