Lund University?s First Visit to UPH

The representatives of Lund Univesity, the biggest universtity in Sweden, visited UPH on Tuesday, June 19 2012.

The representatives of Lund Univesity, the biggest universtity in Sweden, visited UPH on Tuesday, June 19 2012. They are Dr. Hakan Pihl (Head of department, Lund School of Economic and Management) and Dr. Sven Thone Holm (CEO Lundavision AB). They were accompanied by the representatives of Sweden Embassy to Indonesia, Mr. Andre Nilsson, second secretary of Embassy of Sweden and Pipit Puspita, the promotion staff. In this meeting, Lund and UPH discussed about the possibility to hold cooperation for both universities.

Lund University, which was established in 1666, was one of the best research-oriented university in Scandinavia. “We perceive Indonesia as an important region in the world. We have had cooperation with other countries in Europe, but we have not had one with Indonesia, so it is interesting to cooperate with Indonesia”, Dr. Hakan Pihl said.

Lund University invited UPH to cooperate practically in developing innovation system in Indonesia. “Innovation is a complex business. It needs collaboration with entity like yours and it must be professionalized”, said Dr. Sven Thore Holm. He also socialized a project named Indonesia International Innovation System. This project was an idea to combine research and business, where the research result could be used in advancing business world. ?That?s why our government is now investigating universties which is qualified in education, entrepreneurship, etc, to cooperate in actualizing this concept?, Dr. Sven Thore Holm added.

Besides that, Lund School of Economic and Management (LUSEM) also offered cooperation in academic aspect. “LUSEM is one of the most international university with 680 university partners in 50 countries. School of Economic and Management also becomes the most interesting for foreign students, because it has 16 master programs, such as Economic Demography, Economic History, and Management Control”, Dr. Hakan Pihl added.

The idea of this cooperation was also supported by the Sweden Embassy to Indonesia. “We are so excited to have a collaboration with Asian country, such as Indonesia”, said Mr. Andre Nilsson. On August 2011, this idea had been told to Indonesian government and got a positive respond from the government. (ft)
