UPH Choir Won 4 Achievements in Beijing International Choral Competition 2012

UPH Choir, a choir group raised by Tutu Sukendro, once again got achievements in international competition. On last July 16 until July 21, 36 UPH Choir members, Tutu Sukendro, and Grace, the choreographer, left for Beijing to compete in International Choral Competition 2012. All of the members and both coaches had prepared themselves by practicing hardly to face this competition.

The preparation to face the competition had been done since January 2012 until July 2012. The members practiced about 7 hours in a day, having vocal and choreography practices. The practices were done in 6 days a week. Not only practicing, UPH Choir also had held concert for 3 times and often performed in churches.

UPH Choir sang 8 songs in International Choral Competition, consisted of classic and traditional songs, such as Le Crucifix, Double Double Toil and Trouble, Yamko Rambe Yamko, Jali-Jali, and Marencong-Rencong. They also prepared the choreography and costumes well. Full color costumes combined with creative choreography and property, such as glittery stuffs, broom sticks, masks, and other properties made by clay that they made themselves for the traditional songs.

Due to their hard works, UPH Choir succeeded to win 4 achievements in the international competition that participated by 166 choir groups. Those achievements were Gold medal for Female Choirs, Silver medal for Male Choirs, and Bronze medal for Mix Choirs. Besides focusing on vocal practicing, UPH Choir also had another important mission. ?I am here not only as their vocal trainer, but also to teach them about fairness, to teach them to have a good attitude on the stage and outside the stage?, Tutu Sukendro explained. It is not surprising if they also won Peace and Friendship Award in that competition. Previously, UPH Choir had also won Silver medallion in Bandung International Competition 2011. (ft)
