Interior Design Students? Works Amaze Visitors at Desain.ID 2012

Interior Design Department UPH has just participated in prestigious interior design exhibition, Desain.ID 2012.

Interior Design Department UPH participated in prestigious interior design exhibition, Desain.ID, which was
held on September 5th until September 8th 2012. This exhibition was organized by HDII (Himpunan Desainer Interior Indonesia), took place at Jakarta Convention Center, and also endorsed by Ministry of Trade of Indonesia.

Desain.ID 2012, which was held for the second time, was an interior design national exhibition, set to be the benchmark of the nation’s interior design progression, which has been held on a biennial basis. UPH?s participation in Desain.ID was also the second participation, as the first participation was in Desain.ID 2012. This event brought the nation most creative minds together, so that it was expected to be an inspiration gateway for the audiences, towards better interior design professions.

The theme for this year?s exhibition was ?Cosmic: Design in Extra ? Ordinary Means?. Through this theme, the organizer tried to portray the success of technology in mediating the boundaries between intangible virtual world and tangible real world.

Interior Design Department UPH participated by sending 5 works from the students, which were shown in the exhibition. Those works were 4 final projects and 1 furniture work named Multi Living Gadget?, which was still a concept. ?We, from the department, choose the works ourselves. We choose the best final projects, rated from the origin idea until the realization of the concepts,? Paulus Whanarahardja, one of Interior Design lecturer, explained. ?The visitors were also enthusiastic towards the Multi Living Gadget work. According to them, the concept was a brand-new living concept, that they have not seen before,? Paulus added. (ft)

Modular Living Gadget was a unique living quarter concept in a cube-shaped, which was multifunctional and designed to meet our primary needs, such as taking a rest, eating, and working. This work was made by 5 Interior Design students batch 2010 and a lecture, she was Elaine Steffany, BFA., MFA.

Besides holding an exhibition, HDII also held HDII Awards 2012 at the same time, with students and professionals participants. For students participants, the works contested in this competition were their final projects, where 2 UPH students won 3 categories, most green, most functional, and most ethnic.
