In order to develop education in Banten, seven members of commission I DPRD Propinsi Banten visited Universitas Pelita Harapan, Wednesday (10/10) noon, at Lippo Village Karawaci. The team was welcomed by UPH Rector Jonathan L. Parapak, UPH President Raymond Liu, Vice President I Connie Rasilim, Vice President IV Budi Yuwono, and several staffs. The visit was also related to the newly set regulation by the Minister of Home Affairs concerning providing the education and the higher education in Banten and seeing the opportunity to grant educational fee.
The member of Komisi I Muflikhah from PPP, mentioned his appreciation to UPH and suggested a cooperation in giving scholarships for high school graduates from best schools in Banten in order to promote the welfare of Banten.
The parliament did not only mentioned about education but also the development of corporate social responsibility. “Around Lippo, not far from UPH, there is a drought because the water is aspirated by the water company. Maybe a CSR action can be accomplished there, especially in Babakan. We believe UPH can respond to this problem and dedicate themselves to the people,” said Ananta Wahana from PDI-P.
The Banten government also mentioned that UPH was the benchmark of higher education institutions in Banten. Therefore, they hoped that UPH with its international standards was able to participate in bringing forward Banten. As UPH was located in the center of Tangerang city, they were optimistic that UPH could support the educational world, build library, and promite the local citizens.
Responding the government, UPH Rector Jonathan L. Parapak reported UPH real work in Banten, such as establishing public library amd developing the management of the local schools. In healthcare, UPH Faculty of Medicine in cooperation with Siloam Hospitals established public hospital and Siloam clinic. In industry, UPH has cooperated with several industries in Banten such as shoe factory and construction company. In corporate social responsibility area, rector thanked the government for the suggestions and would follow up the issue. rector also mentioned the plan of expanding the nursing faculty to produce more human recources in healthcare issue.
In this visit, the secretary of Komisi I summarized the importance of higher education’s participation in local research team, CSR activities, and local budget used to improve education in order to develop the quality of human resources in Banten.
“We would gladly accept any seminar or workshop invitations from UPH. We hope that this session would be useful for both UPH and Banten,” stated the secretary of Komisi I DPRD Banten. (tna) |
