A comparative study is important to do for a university to improve their quality of education. This was what Udayana University-Bali, done by visiting Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) and Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB).

About 40 students and lecturers, representatives of the Faculty of Engineering of Udayana University, arrived at UPH on October 24th, 2012. “We have two visit targets, UPH and ITB, one is private university while the other is public. Our target is to see the improvement if student’s character, in terms of academic and non-academic matter. We see that each campus has its own characteristics and cultures,” explained I Gede Anom Prawira Suta, a Civil Engineering student from batch 2009, who was also the head of Faculty of Engineering Student Body.

Besides that, the target was also to adopt several things from UPH that was important and needed by their own campus. The first thing to adopt was mentoring system done in this global campus.

The mentoring system was apparently interesting and needed in Anom’s opinion. “Mentoring is very beneficial and able to develop character of student. That is what we really would like to adopt. Maybe the rest can catch up later as the student body and lecturers system re revamped,” he said.

According to him, the system of teaching, character education and admissions systems that implemented at UPH is also very remarkable. It can be used as examples and input, in the improvement of systems development at Udayana University in Bali. (tna)
