On Tuesday, March 18 2014, Universitas Pelita Harapan welcomed United States Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Robert Blake. In his visit, Robert gave a brief lecture about ?Entrepreneurship & Innovations? to inspire students to keep creating innovations and new discoveries for the sake of Indonesia?s progress. Taking place at HOPE building fl.4, about 200 students from Business School, Faculty of Law and Faculty of Social and Political Science came to attend the lecture.

Robert opened his lecture with role model of innovators from US who are successful such as Apple founder Steve Jobs, Windows founder Bill Gates and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. These innovators have drastically changed the world of technology as well as information with their cutting edge invention. Not only US innovators who managed to accomplish these feats, some of Indonesia innovators also have reached this point. Andrew Darwis, the founder of Kaskus ? the biggest Indonesia forum that amasses 500.000 registered users ? studied in US universities.

Looking at these achievements, what has US been contributed so that their innovations have a rapid growth? Furthermore, US have also become a magnet of attraction for people who have fresh innovative ideas in their mind. Robert explained that US have been providing facilities as well as investments to support the innovators? growth. These innovators have been receiving high quality education, research and development assistances, even the end-result will be protected with a strong system of law. By implementing this system, innovators will have a guarantee of benefit.

With US projection to nurture new innovations, Robert encouraged students to keep their performance either in entrepreneurship or innovations. US wish to assist Indonesia is provided in the form of partnership between the two countries. Therefore, there will be an increase in opportunities for Indonesia students to study in US as well as experts from US that will be sent to help Indonesia development. Robert added that he is confident that Indonesia has the ability to discover many breakthrough innovations. Considering Indonesia?s society open ecosystem as well as their achievements in international business and innovations competitions, and with US partnership, Robert is assured that Indonesia already hold the key for a brighter opportunities for business and innovations.
