On Monday, March 24 2014, Radio Announcer Workshop for High School Students by UPH Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIP) was taking place at FISIP Laboratory, Building A fl.7, UPH. 36 students from various schools such as UPH College, SMAK Penabur Gading Serpong, SMK Bina Putra Mandiri, Saint John Senior High School, SMAK 5 Penabur, Pahoa Senior High School and Jubilee Senior High School participated in this workshop.
According to Sigit Pamungkas, Head of UPH Communication TV and Radio Lab, this annual workshop?s purpose is to introduce the world of broadcasting for high school students who especially are eager to study Communication.
Mentored by UPH Broadcasting Club team, the workshop ran for two and a half hours, from 01.00 p.m. to 03.30 p.m. The workshop participants learnt basic understanding of radio, broadcasting technique, vocal technique for broadcasting, and script writing skill. The most awaited moment for the participants was the session where they could try broadcasting practice. With instructions from UPH Broadcasting Club members, students were divided into 12 groups to experience a live-broadcasting practice at UPH radio studio.
All of the participants showed enthusiasm from the beginning until the end of workshop as this was their very first experiences in broadcasting. Furthermore, to make the workshop even became more exciting, one group was chosen as the best broadcasters. The evaluation was based on vocal quality, pacing, clarity, and script content that stayed true with the chosen theme. The cooperation between broadcaster and operator was also one of the considerations for the entire evaluation. ?The students seemed to have a keen interest when we practiced and gave suggestions during the broadcasting evaluation. There were even some participants who at first did not know too much about communication but after joining this workshop, they became interested to enroll to Communication Department,? explained Diana, one of UPH FISIP Lab instructors.
At the end of the workshop, all of the participants gathered to hear the announcement of ?Best Participant?. The best participant in this workshop is UPH College team. (ca)
