On the second day of UPH Festival 21st, UPH had provided a few distinguished guest speakers that can inspire the new students and to motivate them to give positive contribution to the community in their lives both present or in the future later.

The topic was talking about brain, as a part of God?s greatest creation where it can govern the young generation and to form better world in the future, and was discussed by two great speakers that are an expert in their field which are Prof. Dr. dr. Eka J Wahjoepramono SpBS. ( Dean of Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences), and Prof. Yozua Makes, S.H., LL., M.M. ( Founder and Managing Partner of Makes & Partners Law Firm). This panel was moderated by John Riady, B.A., MBA.,JD (Executive Dean of Business School, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.

Prof. Yozua Makes, S.H., LL., M.M. ( Founder and
Managing Partner of Makes & Partners Law
Firm) shared his success story

Yozua Makes had started the panel with an interesting point. ? A failure is supposed to be something extraordinary. But, for me failure is a common thing, because i want to seek challenges to make myself grow better. Don?t be afraid of failure. Failure is used to make you practice and develop things that you did wrong. The problem is sometimes people take failure for granted. They said sorry, but then they did nothing. I believe that everyone had experienced alot of failures in their life. But, the thing that makes people successful is how they react to the failure that they had been through,? said Yozua.

In his story, he stated that we need to realize that we are exist in this world because God has a purpose for us. He created us specially, with talent that we can use to give useful contribution for the society. ?Now, I think you must reflect this on your mind, whether you are willing to find your talents or not? This seems so simple, but the answer is complicated because it can only be proof with action. It?s important for you to understand what is the purpose of your life. With a purpose, you will know what to expect and achieve. Purpose of life drives you to passion. Passion will motivates you to do everything. I believe with the right spirit you will be able to succeed. Having passion proved that you actually understand the purpose of God?s calling in your life. Not only to succeed for yourselves, but you will think about a way on how you can contribute your talents to the country. It will bring you happiness than just reaching for material aspects,?

Simply say, Yozua does not want us to think about ourselves only and to use the talents for personal benefit. Talents are supposed to be used for the best and doubled. Just like the story in the Bible, God understand each person capability, but with great effort the talents come great.

To have a talent is to also use the talent to serve God back and to bring it from us to other. There?s a saying of ?from me to we?.

After Yozua finished his story, Prof. Eka continued the panel with his own personal story. He somehow also give another interesting point to think about. Firstly, he explain a general knowledge about brain in the medical aspect because he is an expert of that field. He explained that the brain is so amazing because it is the one that can control the whole body and it shows us that God?s creation is amazing because he can make every part of the body to look so complicated but, in the same time coordinated so well with each other.

He shared that without God grace and hard work, there will not be any medicine faculty that the students can enjoy like right now. God has lead Siloam Hospital to be better by providing them challenges that they need to face. Eka is known as the first doctor in South East Asia that had done a neuro surgery to the patient. With his determination and success, he has bring a good reputation to the hospital and to the faculty. From the first time he had succeed the surgery, he often invited to give public lectures abroad about his experience because most of them were surprised that Indonesia has that kind of capability.

Prof. Eka was talking about the role of brain in someone future

?Being successful is not something you can achieve over a night. It?s a step by step process. For me, I agree with what Yozua just said today. Material is not everything, not all things can be achieved by having alot of money. Ater I did that surgery, I feel so happy. It?s just so right and i feel this is where my heart is located,?

No one in this world is successful because a coincidence but, they are working hard, and also use their brains hard. ?If you never experience any challenges in your life, or fight for what you want to achieve, the brain will be broken. Something will turn out wrong when you?re giving up. Just like a person that decided to do a suicide, of course their brain are already destroyed. It is destroyed because they never use it,? said Eka.

At UPH, Eka has always expected that the students to be able to be the greatest in everything they do or to become the greatest doctors, having a world class quality. Not only that, but the students need to remember to always give back to the their own country. To fame the name of Indonesia itself.

?For me, every successful thing comes from our ambition. Since I was small, i was raised with my parents not to give up easily. I had worked in several hospital abroad, and wondering why can Indonesia are able to do it too comparing to America. My motivation is to able to do what other countries can do. Just like having good productions, or types of music,? shared Eka.

In the question and answer to the students, some of the students had created an interesting question. One of them is Kristonai from Maluku ( Teacher College). He had asked 2 question toward the 2 speakers. This is list of the questions:

Q: To Mr. Yozua, you said that the good thing would not always be the right thing. So, what do you mean about that, and what can give us as tips to apply this thinking in our daily life?

A: First, I want to say that I am proud of you. You are confident. It?s your foundation to succeed. Back to the topic, simply say that my student is already late 15 minutes late, therefore in fact I can?t let my student enter the class. It?s the right to do but, actually it?s sometimes not the good thing to do. You need to listen to the reason first. And if it makes sense, then I will let my student enter the class. This is what called a discipline by heart. The tips that I can give you is that you need to realize that your education is not about remembering. You will remember the knowledge when you understand the logic behind it.

Q: Prof.Eka, i was reading a book that stated ?From a problem, there are also the creation of creative idea?. Now, what is the hardest experience that you had face in the medical aspect and how you can solve it. What smart tips that you can give to us to proceed our campus life?

A: Now you need to think it in yourself whether you have an ambition or not. If you don?t have it, don?t even start to talk about it. Ambition drives you to anything, nothing is impossible. Having an ambition then you create some strategy to achieve the best. Having too much luxury will make your brain die sooner and you will never study anything. You need to learn how to enjoy your life in simplicity because in that you learn how to solve the challenges your facing on.
