UPH had provided a series of events to welcome the 2014 batch students, so they will be prepared to enter their new life in the campus. Through UPH Festival 21st, the new students are able to understand more about UPH generally. Not only that, they will have an opportunity to listen to several inspirational figure that could motivate them to do their best based on their calling from God, using their talents to glorify Christ in UPH and their community.

On the first day of UPH Festival 21st, the event was started with a morning devotion by Andrew Mitchell bringing a topic from UPH vision and mission which are, true knowledge, faith in Christ and Godly character. He will specifically explain each vision during the next four days, which will be starting from true knowledge relating to the higher education in the university.

?We all here because we want to grow in our knowledge. UPH believes that to gain higher knowledge of your field you must have the true knowledge. As you grow in your higher knowledge you will change. Higher knowledge change, and matures us,? said Andrew

He illustrated this with the story of Nicholas Copernicus, scientist in the 1500s. He was an astronomer and found higher knowledge about the solar system. At that time, everyone believe the universe revolves around the earth. But, with Nicholas studies he found out that the universe are revolving around the sun not the earth. His studies gave a huge impact to the world, where the worldview were changing.

He explained that this illustration shows that the more knowledge you gain, the more mature you will be. If you want to succeed on your field of study you must have true knowledge, not just higher knowledge. You realized that the world do not revolve around you.

Andrew also quoted a saying from Jean Paul Sartre that ?we cannot know any finite thing unless we can relate it to an infinite reference point. ? He stated that our higher knowledge is a limited process. We need to realize that there are infinite reference point where it?s the center of our true knowledge that come from God. The only way to gain higher knowledge is to understand true knowledge.

From the Bible we can see it from Collosians 2:3 where it is stated as: In Christ Jesus ?are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.? This scripture is clearly convey that Christ creates everything. All of things that are here in the earth are God?s creation both directly or through human power. God is the truth.

As a Christ centered university, UPH wants to encourage the students to gain higher knowledge through true knowledge from God. Through their study, Andrew motivated the students to reach the peak, to achieve best, and avoid being stuck in the bottom not to grow at all both spiritually and physically.

After a brief morning devotion, the event was continued with the chaplain session by Andrew itself. At first, he explained that his job is basically to serve the students, and to motivate them to be better in person because in UPH does not provide only academic values but also spiritual values through fellowship, retreats, and HOPE counsultation. He wanted the students to think over the purposes of them to study in UPH.

?Most of them wanted to achieve higher knowledge to be rich and famous, but in UPH it?s more than that. It?s not about making money, but it?s about how we can serve God through our talents and field,?said Andrew in the end of his session.
