On the second floor of building F at Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH), a student was writing with a digital pen on a projection of light. The student wrote ?Hello UPH? and doodle on the sides with rainbow colors. The drawing on the eBeam board was simultaneously projected on the LCD screen near the board. Every sketch that the student made was projected directly at the LCD screen. Iin the other corner, a couple of girls were dancing to the beat playing Kinect that have motion sensors. This is the booth of the informatics student; they open the booth to welcome new college students and high school students that came for open house.

The informatics major is one of UPH?s computer science faculty. Vanessa Putri Pranata informatics student of batch 2012, is the new student body presiden of informatics and she was glad to have given the room for informatics booth which they call for short ?iBooth?. ?Last year we were all given an outdoor booth that?s not so spacious, this year we can use our lab for our booth. This is good for us, as we need the equipment and devices that is here to show our work and projects. This year we showcase our new eBeam, Kinect game and our seniors? thesis? said the girl that came from Solo. She herself enrolled in UPH as she considered it as the number one private campus in Indonesia and had a great reputation. ?I wanted to take the informatics major because I believe in the future we will be living in a digital era where electronic and computerized devices uses are high. So it will be a growing industry that have a lot of opportunity in the future?, she explained.

With this booth they hope to attract and encourage more students to enroll in the informatics major. UPH has many facilities to accommodate their major; they have four practical labs. There is the Oracle lab, SAS lab, Microsoft lab and Cisco lab. We also have cutting-edge technology for learning uses and very competent lecturers that are practitioners in their field. ?When the high school students visit our booth, we will first explain to them what informatics major is and what we learn here. Then, we will show them one of our newest facilities which are the eBeam board that we use in their labs and classes. It is a digitalized board that connects to the computer and we just start using it this year. We also have the Kinect game to show one of our new concentrations which is gamin,? said Vanessa.

?Here in UPH the informatics major has complete facilities that support our learning environment. So we can learn the practical knowledge to in our technologically advanced labs and computers. For high school students who are considering entering the informatics major, don?t be afraid that it will be hard. I am sure if the person is willing to work hard and study, they will be able to succeed in this major,? encouraged Vanessa.
