On Wednesday, 13 May 2015 at 9.30-11 am, the Food Technology held the Studium Generale by the keynote speaker, Associate Professor Julian Cox from University of New South Wales (UNSW) Australia
UPH keeps developing programs to improve the academic quality. One of them is through the international guest lectures or Studium Generale, a routine program of UPH Food Technology Department by inviting academicians and practitioners from various fields of expertise to share knowledge and experiences. On Wednesday, 13 May 2015 at 9.30-11 am, the Food Technology held the Studium Generale by the keynote speaker, Associate Professor Julian Cox from University of New South Wales (UNSW) Australia with the topic of ?Food Safety, Salmonella, and Poultry.? This program was delivered by 69 students and 7 lecturers from UPH Food Technology students.
According to Julia Ratna Wijaya, MAppSC, Head of UPH Food Technology, this program is the realization of UPH Food Technology Department so the students and young lecturers could gain more knowledge through latest researches, locally and internationally. ?Through programs like this, the students and lecturer could be more updated with the development of materials and equipment in food industry, as the place of works for them in the future. Besides, by presenting the international guest lecturer, this program also could increase the students? ability, especially the Food Technology International Streamline students, to be more confident in expression and communicating with the native speaker,? explained Julia.
Enteric bacterial pathogen Salmonella is used to explain and highlight the concept being delivered. The dissemination of Salmonella throughout the food chain is extremely complex, requiring interventions at all levels to maximize control. Using poultry (meat and egg) production as an example, various strategies developed for control of enteropathegons in primary production will be described. However, consumers must have greater role in ensuring food safety. Consumers must maintain personal hygiene and food product handling process. On this stage, the education for consumers has crucial role.
?Through this Studium General, it is hoped that the students could gain deeper knowledge regarding the food safety and its application in the daily life and for lecturers to know more about the development of the latest rapid analysis method,? ended Julia. (el/jw)
