?To be the best choir in the world and to spread the gospel through singing? is the vision and mission of UPH Choir, which has been achieved successfully but still need continuous improvements. It has been 10 years since its establishment in 2005, UPH Choir, led by Tutu Sukendro as the conductor, has been faithfully serving and proclaims the love of God through praises. Moreover, UPH Choir has also proved their skill internationally and achieved numerous medals as well as acknowledgements. In this 10 years, UPH Choir has followed 107 events, which were held in several places such as churches, hospitals, concert halls and at UPH, they has also participated in 7 national and international competitions and has conducted 26 concerts, including Christmas, Easter, anniversary and annual concert.
On June 4, 2015, UPH Choir held a Pre-Competition and Annual Concert celebrating UPH Choir 10th Anniversary ?Hymn of Praise? at the Concert Hall of Building D 501, UPH. This concert was a celebration for UPH Choir 10th anniversary, which was also a pre-competition concert and a fund-raising event for UPH Choir, to carry out UPH and Indonesia?s name at the most prestigious international event in the world, ?The Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival 2015? in the upcoming July, at Manila, Philippines.
On this concert, UPH Choir sang 10 classical gospel songs and four traditional songs from Philippines and China. Two of them will be performed with a choreography which was taught by UPH Choir choreographer, Grace Allen. The performance of UPH Choir on that night was extremely spectacular. This was shown by the applause, cheers and shouts from the audience, which created some commotion inside the Hall of Concert. In fact, not only it was spectacular, but also this concert was enlivened by the TRIO, which consists of Antonius Sugeng, Dean of Conservatory of Music (CoM) UPH, Ridolf Hehanussa, Head of Vocal Concentration UPH and Tutu Sukendro, UPH Choir?s conductor, who is also a music lecturer in CoM UPH.
For four years, since February, UPH Choir has prepared to compete and show the best for the competition in Philippine. ?We practiced the choreography and vocals every day from 4 A.M. to 11 P.M. Indeed, it is hard and difficult for us, because we still have other activities, such as organization, funds and making properties for the choreography. But surprisingly, we always feel enthusiastic and we always want to learn to provide the best,? explained Jennifer Tan, an alumni who is also the head of UPH Choir 2010-2013 who will also participate in the competition. They are hoping that this is not just about the competition, but also a moment for them to retell the truth of Gospel and God?s Love, through song and praises and even through their entire life. (fc)
