Due to the development, Cinematography and Animation concentration of UPH DKV hosted ?IDIOM ? Form of Expression? that aimed to introduce UPH cinematography and animation
The development of movie nowadays is very rapid along with the advancement of technology, which requires the movie industry to compete and create innovations to fulfill consumers? needs. With the presence of various movie works from movie industry, it is slowly able to direct the consumers? needs for good-quality movies. On the other hand, to produce good-quality movies, the movie industry needs human resources who possess the capability to realize best works.
In answering the challenge, since 2013, Universitas Pelita Harapan School of Design Department of Visual Communication Design has developed three concentrations that consist of Graphic Design, Cinematography, and Animation. The Cinematography concentration academically teaches about various forms of visual communication through a moving audiovisual media, in producing advertisement, music video, art film, and short film with various genres. Meanwhile, in Animation concentration, students will be taught about producing high-quality animation including animation show reel, character design, 3D modeling, and others.
Due to the development, Cinematography and Animation concentration of UPH DKV hosted ?IDIOM ? Form of Expression? that aimed to introduce UPH cinematography and animation to the new students, parents, and movie industry professionals. This event was expected to form a synergy that benefited the academic and movie industry. To achieve the objective, UPH gained full support from Cinemaxx ? Maxxbox Lippo Village in facilitating the movie screening and providing free tickets to the audiences.
The programs of ?IDIOM ? Form of Expression?, which were held for two days, on September 14-15, 2015, consisted of Movie Screening, which showing the movies and animations of students in Cinematography and Animation of Communication Visual Design, UPH School of Design, Academic Showcase, exhibiting the artworks of School of Design?s Interior Design, Product Design, Architecture, and Visual Communication Design, and Talk show with professional film maker, Henky Solaiman (Senior Actor, Producer and Director), Verdi Solaiman (Actor), Yandy Laurens (Film Director), Oscar Herry (Animator) dan Mutia Terian (2D Character Designer), who shared their experiences to UPH DKV students in movie and animation industry in Indonesia.
J. Baptisa Anton, Head of UPH DKV Cinematography said that the event is held annualy and is also useds as the publication tool to the society about the works of UPH students. Anton continued, this time, the theme is Idiom, which refers to a form of expression. They showed the students and audiences that they are free in interpreting expression into any manifestation and perspective. From year to year, according to Anton, the quality of UPH students in producing artworks are getting better. ?It can be said that their works are meeting the market interests and fulfilling the industry demand,? he stated.
According to Anton, the increasing quality of the UPH DKV Cinematography students? artworks could be proven in the way the students succeed and achieved several achievements in competitions for documentery movie ?Care for Disability?. Besides, they earned the trust from music industry to produce some music videos as Official Music Videos including ?Jamaica Caf??, ?Serious Rock Band,? ?Bayu Risa?, ?Gribs?, ?Iam Maulana?, ?Komedi Musik?. ?Lastly, our two students proceed to the Balinale International Festival that will be held on the upcoming September 28-30. The strength of our students is on the excellent picture, and that is our characteristic,? he added.
UPH Film Screening that held at Studio 4 of Cinemaxx Maxx Box Lippo Village was a breakthrough, where the students? works could be shown in big screen. Thus, the support is expected to increase. There were 40 movies by the students played in two days in a form of animation, music video, short movie, and public service announcement (PSA). The audience seemed to be highly interested, proven by the occupied seats and the audiences who did not only come from faculty members, students, or family, but from the public as well. (fc/nn)
