International Community for Students (ICS) is an organization that is opening opportunities for Indonesian UPH students to establish relationships with international students, so the ICS held an annual event called Cultural Day. Seeing the enormous potential of this event, the ICS held an event in a larger scale than before and changed the name of the event this year to ICS Cultural Week.

This year, ICS carries the tagline “Culture across Borders”. This tagline means that there are many cultures in the world that we can learn which ICS brings some of those cultures, especially from representatives of the international students themselves to be expounded in order to create awareness culture within UPH. The Cultures displayed was shown by students of UPH who represent their countries, like the Philippines, Myanmar, and Nepal. Not only that, UPH student from Korea was cooperating with aT center which is the Korean government in Indonesia which engaged in food.

Many of the activities are undertaken by the representatives of State by opening a booth that showed the hallmark and characteristic of each State, of the traditional clothes to traditional food. It is intended that all residents and visitors of UPH can feel the atmosphere of the countries in the world and this event gives the impression that we all who visit are on the way to other countries. On September 21, ICS Cultural Week held a pre-event ceremony at Food Junction as a way to improve the atmosphere and invites the entire UPH community to participate to this event. A week later, ICS Cultural Week opened their show with a series of attractive and lively appearance. This event was held from September 28 to October 2, 2015.

On October 2, 2015, ICS Cultural Week 2015 held the grand event as a mark of the end of ICS event Cultural Week 2015 in the Broadway Stage of Serpong Summarecon Mall. The event was attended by all the committee ICS Cultural Week with an audience of nearly 500 people, both from within and outside the UPH.\

The event was opened by the appearance of the flag parade and immediately greeted by two famous MC, Eric Wilson of Communication Studies 2013 and Tamara Anastasia of Communication Studies, 2013 at 06.00 p.m. The flags are displayed representing 24 countries, consisting of six countries from Asia, six countries from America, 6 countries from Europe, and 6 countries from Africa. Flag parade aims to introduce the diversity of countries in the world to the audience as well. After that there is the appearance of Japanese Dance ?U-Maku Eisa Taiko Shinka,? which also invites the participation of the audience to dance along in front of the stage.

The next performance was enlivened by the appearance of the GAC (Gamaliel, Audrey, and Cantika) wearing batik costumes in honor of National Batik Day which falls squarely on 2nd October. In the middle of the performance, they congratulated the National Batik and tell you a little about the importance of culture in Indonesia. The event is no less exciting when a door prize in the form of a single-Go Pro Hero 4 is given. The door prize was won by one of Pelita Harapan University student majoring in Communication Studies in 2014, Vichyel (@vichyel).

ICS festive event Cultural Week 2015 Closing Event – “Culture across Borders” does not end there. This event was closed with Traditional Clothing Parade from 10 countries, namely Korea, Japan, Egypt, India, Greece, the Netherlands, Arab, American-Indian, Spanish, and the Victorian Era (Europe). With this, ICS Cultural Week 2015 succeeded in introducing some cultures that exist in the world to the people of Indonesia, especially students of Pelita Harapan University.

Thanks to the hard work and effort committee members ICS Cultural Week and supporting crew, led by Amanda Thea of the International Relations Department, 2013, ICS event Cultural Week “Culture across Borders” became the biggest event of the first annual ICS ever held. Future hope is that ICS can be known by students of UPH and will increase a sense of tolerance between cultures.
