Knowing what major you would have to take in university is a very crucial thing for High School students. Until today, we can still found many students who don?t understand what they would be studying in university or what kind of profession they could do after they graduated.  Whereas an early introduction towards the options of majors that students can take in university would be very helpful for them to face the day when they have to enter university. Moreover, an early introduction accompanied with experiences will definitely make them more passionate about their studies.

Departing from that condition, the Marketing and Admission Department of UPH invited High School students who were interested upon entering Communication Major in the future, to join the ?Stand Up Reporter? workshop, held by the Communication Major, FISIP UPH, on March 19, 2016, at the 7th floor of the A Building UPH, Karawaci, Tangerang.

In the Introduction session, Sigit Pamungkas, a Lecturer of the Communication Major of UPH as well as the host today, explained that the main purpose of this workshop was to introduce what would be learned by students of the Communication Major in University, so that these students could have more knowledge and assurance on their choices in the future. In relation with this workshop, the Communication Major of UPH wanted to introduce a special course where students can learn how to be a ?Stand Up Reporter?.

?Hopefully, from this workshop all of you could get the picture of what would you be studying in University, no matter what you would really choose in the future,? Sigit stated, continued with an acknowledgements to all the students and teachers who attended the event.

Through this event, students were able to learn what is ?Stand Up Reporter? which is delivered by Roy Robert Rondonuwu, a Communication Major lecturer. Roy talked about many things regarding ?Stand Up Reporter?, starting from the importance of Public Speaking ability training.

?Being a reporter is easy, we just have to talk. But the most important things when we were about to speak in public is, we have to know who are we talking to and what are we supposed to talk about. Besides that, in Public Speaking it?s very important for us to control our thoughts and to thing about the ?Stand Up Reporter? as a way of communicating and reporting something through the camera for the public, so that the public can get closer to the event reported,? Roy explained.

Aside from that, he also explained about the three things that have to be presented when someone wants to report an event. The first thing is introduction, which includes greetings, the reporter?s name, what event are they going to talk about and the illustration. After the introduction, there are detailed description of the report and lastly, the conclusion of the event. Roy encouraged students to do a direct practice as a reporter in the middle of his presentation.

Students seemed to be very enthusiastic throughout the event, because aside from theories, they also got the chance to practice those theories directly as a ?Stand Up Reporter?.  The students were divided into three groups; half of them got the chance to try to be a ?Stand Up Reporter? at the TV Lab of the Communication Lab, while the other group did an outdoor ?Stand Up Reporter? practice, around the UPH campus, completed with all the camera equipment, just like those reporters in the Television. All of the students were encouraged to prepare the information that they would have to present in front of the camera. Best three ?Stand Up Reporter? got a special gift, prepared by the Marketing and Admission team of UPH. After that, students were also given certificates soon after the workshop ended (mt/rh).
