Student Association of UPH Computer Science held its annual event, Falcon Project, which has now entered its seventh year since 2009. Falcon Project 7 was held on May 16-20, 2016 this year with the theme ?Innovation Through Internet? which took place at UPH Karawaci Campus, Lippo Village. On the closing night held on May 20, 2016, Falcon Project 7 held a Faculty of Computer Science Award which took place at Ibis Hotel Gading Serpong.

In contrast to previous years, this year Falcon Project 7 only established competitions specifically for high school students, with the theme ‘Internet of Things (IOT) For Smart City’. As for the Computer Science students themselves, this event organized two seminars, namely Technopreneurship on May 16, 2016 and IOT for Smart City Seminar on May 17, 2016. The highlight of this event was Computer Science Award for students which have been auditioned since March 19, 2016.

Through Falcon Project 7 series of event, certainly the whole committee and lecturers at the Faculty of Computer Science expect that this event could provide a maximum benefit. As Michael Arvyand, Head of Committee for Falcon Project 7 stated that Falcon Project was held as a medium to accommodate both university and high school students to explore the latest information and trend developments about technology.

“Through this event, we want Computer Science students, as well as high school students to be able to continue to innovate and work in the field of technology. Besides, of course through this event, we also hope that Computer Science will be better known by the public,? Michael said.

Additionally, related to the theme, according to Michael, the reason for choosing Internet as the theme is due to the fact that in this era, Internet is becoming increasingly popular in the community. Internet can even be said as a part of a person, and is able to help the lives of others as well as having a major impact.

“Therefore, through this Falcon Project 7, we hope that people will realize that the benefit of internet is not merely just to access social media, but that it can help other human activities more efficiently,” Michael explained.

This year, Falcon Project 7 is able to invite eight high schools to participate in the competition, such as SMA Asisi, SMA Atisa Dipamkara, SMA Gandhi, SMAN 5, and others. The whole team is competing to present their ideas related to IOT for Smart City. They were encouraged to present their ideas about what they can do to make their city better through technology. Some of the ideas presented were E-Bracelet, Smart Trash, and various other ideas.

Aside from the competition and seminars, Falcon Project 7 also presented an exhibition in Supermall Karawaci which displayed the work of Computer Science students, their thesis, as well as Airwheel product exhibition as one of the sponsors. This event took place on May 18-20, 2016. (mt)
